Thundercats Getting a Reboot

Even by the high standards of ’80s cartoons, Thundercats was pretty bananas. Mixing futuristic science-fiction with sword-and-sorcery fantasy, the fondly remembered series also featured an intriguing central plotline, in which the last survivors of a dying civilization flee to a mysterious planet called Third Earth. (Think Battlestar Galactica as re-enacted by the cast of Cats.) Cartoon Network will relaunch the show later this year, and the first official image of the new-look cast has now been released. Lion-O looks trimmer, more like a track star played by Matt Damon than a professional wrestler played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Cheetara’s costume is still magnificently revealing, but she’s replaced her bad ’80s hair with bad Ke$ha hair. Panthro looks like a cross between the Gray Hulk and Barret from Final Fantasy VII, and if you understand why both of those characters are awesome, then marry me. And Tygra looks basically the same. Thundercats, ho!

PopWatchers, are you excited about the Thundercats reboot? Think they’ll try to find a way to sex up Snarf? Am I the only one who’s worried Mumm-Ra might seem like an accidental Bin Laden-esque figure?

Hell no. As much as I LOVED it growing up, I'd rather see it not be touched. Then again, that sentiment is based on my reaction after seeing the artwork shown in the original post.

A decent idea. HORRIBLE execution.

how so...?  It's the same as the original, with retouched visuals and the original music from the Japanese dub left intact. 

and it doesn't have the annoying fillers. I find it better than the original since it gets straight to the point. The intro song is horrible though.

I saw this just the other day and I wanted to start a thread about it but it was pointless...another classic series that is gonna go down the crapper along with TMNT, x-men, spider-man, power rangers...etc.

The only series that have been a success in my eyes were ones involving the transformers (beast wars) and anything with batman in it. Even the brave and the bold was pretty okay.

the recent Wolverine and the X-Men and Spectacular Spider-Man shows were actually really really good.  I'll check this one out whenever it comes out.  I'm actually more excited over the updated og toy line they're gonna come out with.  This is just the greatest toy vehicle of all time
