I don't want to make excuses for Tiger because, frankly, he's getting along just fine without my help. But he's the most scrutinized golfer on the planet, which means larger galleries, more media coverage, and, unfortunately, more photographers.

If you were watching Sunday's on-again, off-again weather-delayed final round, you might've glimpsed Woods' olé on the ninth hole. It's seldom you see Woods finish his backswing with just one hand on the club, but that's exactly what happened on the par 3. And it had nothing to do with the lake that ran along the entire right side of the hole.

Nope, it was something much more sinister: somebody snapped a photo on Tiger's downswing. Not good.
'%+++@@$!'' [Woods] yelled as he dropped a hand off his follow-through and that usually effortless, smooth swing suddenly seized and turned into something ugly. ...

Woods had some choice words for the photographers who were shadowing him as he walked from the ninth green to the 10th tee. ''The next time a photographer shoots an [expletive] picture,'' Woods warned, ``I'm going to break his [expletive] neck.''
Couldn't agree more. Look, I get it, photographers want to get the shot. But really, how many times does it have to happen before the tour steps in? During the 2004 U.S. Open at Shinnecock, Woods' caddie, Steve Williams dispensed a little vigilante justice and was subesquently ripped for it.
From the Washington Post.
Woods was standing on the second tee during the final round Sunday, when he was bothered by the noise from a spectator's camera. His caddie turned and marched angrily 25 yards over to a section of the gallery, where he plunged three deep into a crowd of people, and pulled the offending camera away from a spectator, who turned out to be an off-duty police officer. The rest of the gallery responded with uncomfortable murmurs.
That was the highlight of the '04 Open for me.

Trigger-happy photogs, a-holes who sneak in cell phones, people who yell "get in the hole", Rory Sabbatini -- they should all be summarily executed sans trial. I think that would send the message. And give that righteous Sally Jenkins something to write about.

a lot of fail to under stand how important an underswing is in golf. It makes or breaks the range and proximity of the ball.

everybody should bring a a loud, bright %$% camera to his next game, and all take pics at the exact same time............and do it for the rest of his career.

real talk, he should practice while his caddie takes pics.

It probably wouldn't be annoying if everyone took pictures. It's the fact that it's one idiot who does it, and it breaks the silence.

I know a lot are thinking it, so I'll say it in one word: diva.

Every time I hear of him complaining about a photographer again, it's after a loss.

And I always think to myself 'Dude, you're supposed to be... o.k., you are... the best in the world. Why on earth is a click breaking your focus?Pitchers pitch in a STADIUM of noise. Basketball players make incredible shots FEET from screaming fans. What's up?'

Amen ska. If i was raising a golf prodigy i'd train him to play with as much distraction and noise around him possible.

You can't be serious? He complains every time it happens on the spot, whether hes winning or losing...(most of the time hes winning)

I dont know if you play golf or not, however I used to play it competitively... and this %@%+ bugs anyone who plays. It's golf, its not basketball orbaseball, its an entirely different sport with different demands. His swing is coming down at 125 mph, when someone snaps a pic and it throws you off just atad, it completely changes your entire shot. Take the picture before, or even after contact... but why take it for the split second that hes in his downswing? thats just *%%!!! up.

Thing is, golf is all about etiquette. There are unwritten rules you have to abide by when you golf and since golf is a polite sport, it's rude forphotographers to keep taking pictures during his swing. Anywho, remember when Tiger got mad heated when those guys screamed "THIS IS SPORTSCENTER!"after he teed off? And Tiger just straight up confronted the dudes

I agree with Ska Hitting a baseball while 40,000 people boo you > a flick from a camera.

why is golf so hard?

no defenders, the ball isn't moving at all, no time limit, everyone is supposed to be still and quiet, hell you don't even have to carry your ownequipment....

all rhetorical since I golf, but i always wonder about that

Ska Tiger's not the one complaining here/writing the article. It's not like he publicly denounced the photographers a day after thetournament....THAT would be him whining. Now, he obviously wasn't playing great and these guys got under his skin a little, but I'm the guy'sbiggest fan in the world and he's legitimately the last man in sports that would make an excuse for not winning a tournament. Especially an excuseinvolving photographers. The baseball and screaming fans scenario people are bringing up really don't compare to this situation, and I think the peoplebringing these up AREN'T golfers. Correct me if I'm wrong. Golf requires a lot more focus than the aforementioned sports and this is why it's a bigdeal: it is mentally the toughest sport in the world. I thought non-golfers would agree, but apparently not.

And to whoever said that Tiger wasn't trained properly obviously has miniscule biographical knowledge of him. Then again he's my favorite athlete so Icould go on all day.

I play twice a week during the spring/summer (word to Manakiki and Shawnee

), and re-thinking, I do see how important focus is. There arent asmany important motions in a baseball swing as there are in a golf swing.

Fairways are a whole lot more narrow than 1st to 3rd base. So yeah, thinking about it. Someone yapping while I'm trying to swing would be quite irritating.

AMEN. I know some of you people don't think its a sport, But that is a hard game. You have to be 100% focused even when it is your back swing. Askany golfer, any real golfer they will say the same thing.
