Tipping question

When the restaurant adds 18% gratitude automatically to the bill do you still tip? It was three of us, we all left $5.To put it plain if you and two other people's order come out to $60 that's $10.80 added.

18% sounds about right on the money on the rule of doubling the tax (at least here in CA).

The restaurants I go to only do it if the total comes out to be above $x. I'm sure they do it on purpose so the stingy folks can't try to one up onthem.

no you dont have to tip if they charge you gratuity.
most places do it if you have parties greater than 6 or if its a friday night/weekend.

i was at Flannigan's the other day and the cc receipt they give you has calculated amounts for you: 10, 15, 20% so you can fill it in accordingly.

So you tipped the 10.80 because it was auto added, then added 15$? You tipped 25.80 on a 60$ order? That's 43% if so

I tip good usually if the service is good and if not, I just do 15%. I hate cheap people that don't tip or be mad stingy and have to freaking calculatethings to the dot. I remember my friend bought a friend to a dinner once and dude was arguing over 2 bucks, I just gave him a mean

Like someone stated in the other thread.. Would you tip the dude at footlocker bringing out your shoes? The waiters get payed to due a job which they signed uped for.  Now if they dont like the pay find another job. 

Hate how above poster  posted something about people being cheap. At the end of the day the person who is purchasing a commodity has worked to receive  their pay. Why should i give someone a free meal per say?
