I hate cell phone company contracts. They will do anything to stop you from getting out of your plan.

A few years ago i picked up a second phone line (ATT is my primary), in order to do some online business with a data plan ONLY.
I've been in this contract for over 4 years now and i just really want out.

Any advice on how to cancel my plan without the cancellation fee? It ends in July, but i just can't have 2 phones for any longer, it's driving me mad!

I had a thread about this last week and got no replies
hopefully u do, so I can get out of this early

lol cashmerethoughts used to do that.......but if memory serves me correctly, i think he stopped cuz some people were gettin shiested...Just call up customercare and make up some bs issue. *shrug*

CashmereThoughts was doing that for a while (not sure if it was T-Mobile) or not, but there were a couple of stories of him defrauding people so... not sure ifyou want to go that route.

In case you didn't know, termination fees are pro-rated now. So if you only have 6 months left in your contract you'd be paying a $90 termination feeif you canceled now (instead of the $175 for the full 2 years).

.

^ TheBachellor, i called and they did not offer to pro-rate it for me. My contract is up in July, so it's actually about 6-7 months.

Damn it. Tmobile customer care is the absolute worst!

Believe me, it's supposed to be pro-rated. My advice is to call them back and if they don't know what you're talking about, ask tospeak to someone higher until you get someone who acknowledges it. They've been pro-rating it since 08.

How it's supposed to work is that it's $5 off of that $175 for every month in your 2 year contract. I'm assuming you've been in it 1.5years, so that's 18 months. So that's actually only $85 you're supposed to be paying.

Don't let them fraud you. If you sound like you know what you're talking about, they'll concede.

they started doing this pro rated thing i believe a year ago

and what the ? your in a 5 year contract or somethign with tmobile?

you signed it, and now you want out? of course they arent going to let you out, they have no reason to let you out because you probably got your phone heavilydiscounted and the way they make their money back is locking you up in a contract

no, im not in a 5 year contract.

im in a year by year contract and i paid almost full price with only a $100 discount on my phone, i have not upgraded in 2 years.

what exactly is a year by year contract

i thought there were only 2 years, 1 year, and month to month

so every year you get a chance to sign or not to sign a new contract like a one year?

ok, so why did you renew it then?

it makes no sense, people renew their contracts in order to get a new phone, but you are just renewing your contract for no reason?

As a T-Mo employee I'd say:

Good luck

Tmobile used to do one year contract.. NOT NO MORE.. My advice is to talk to someone above the person who picks up the phone. JUST DEMAND IT..

Might as well fork over the cash like everybody else...I'm not on TMobile, but I hear they pro-rate terminationfees. You might luck out and pay less. Doubt if you gon get out of it for $Free.99 though.

I mean if you got enough cash to pay for two phones, don't you got enough to pay the ETF? No hate, justaskin.

Hmm... 1 year contracts may have slightly different pro-rate rules.

However, after 6 months of ANY contract, there should be some sort of decrease in the ETF. Seeing as how you're practically there (of not already), youshould really look in to it.

seriously, *+@ are you going on about? i haven't wanted to cancel it until the last few months. like i said, i havent had an upgrade since 2years ago.... the contract im currently in is 2 years, but prior to that i would renew it yearly (hence why i said year by year) to get a discounted phone.

this has NOTHING to do with the topic i addressed. move on.

so i called again, and yea.. they finally let me have the pro-rated deal, but i'm not eligible for a couple more weeks. i guess i'll just go thatroute.

nope. i pay for a data/ unlimited texting plan which is only $30. i'll be transferring unlimited texting to my current calling phone (iPhone on ATT).

the $200 cancellation fee + moving my plan to my current phone would take a lot out of my pocket.. but the $100 cancellation fee isn't as bad.

^ you put yourself in this mess and couldve saved yourself some money in the process by not signing a contract

it was easy enough

i signed a contract years ago.. i never considered the month by month. whats done is done, im not worried about "what i could've done." it'snot worth thinking about now.

You're welcome, fool.

fool? come on now.

i had actually googled this immediately after making the post and saw that they were pro-rating as of 2008. i figured (out of pure laziness) that i would postabout it on NT first.
