Whats up NT,

I am sure I am not the only NTer on here thats in college who wants to work in any type of Financial Services after graduation. I am a Senior Economics major at Northeastern University graduating in May, have done two internships, one being with an investment bank in NYC in equity operations and one with a major mutual fund company in Boston in their relationship management and international mutual fund division.

Now with graduation coming soon, health insurance running out lol, and the desire to get out into the working force, I am looking for opportunities. I would love to go to Chicago but being from the east coast, I don't know any recruiting firms out there, any small shops, etc. I have already signed up with Robert Half, and other various recruiters.

Does anybody on NT have any other recruiters, firms to look at or any help in general. I am sure I am not the only one who could benefit from this.

Thanks in advance.

i did the first internship after my sophomore year and realized that i didn't want to go back there. and after my second internship, they decided not to hire at all for the position i was going for.

I don't know anything about chicago OP, but why don't you contact career services ?

depends on what they position you for, what you ask for is irrelevant.

most like running errands from 8 to 10.

That's only for people that don't get full time offers later.  I did not of that during my internship.

Tips; go to recruiting events, and network.  On a side note, though, you don't have any friends or family that can land you an interview?

i forgot to add, that its not like im strictly focuses on chicago, i wouldn't mind staying in new england and working in boston or moving down to nyc, or even to san francisco. just trying to get an idea of whats out there in this tough market.

just got my resume forwarded to the HR staffing consultant today at an investment bank for a jr interest rate trader position.

and Frische - I worked in operations at an investment bank. it wasn't investment banking lol. i wish it was.

reigndrop - where did you work? if you don't want to talk about it on here, tell me to pm you.

i have been networking with some small investment banks and going back and forth. alot of places are just skeptical to hire people right now.
the networking i have been doing has been going relatively well and hopefully something will come from it.

northeastern's u career services are so focuses on playing students in co-op roles that they dont really focus on full time, and when they do, its always like in operations or compliance. i understand that its a job but i am trying to do something that i would enjoy. not saying investment banking is enjoyable, im looking more towards the sales, trading or research side.

thanks for the feedback. just trying to potentially hear something that i haven't thought of yet.

That's the only reason I said what I said.. but still, what were some of your duties? Getting coffee? filing papers? putting some accounting skills and excel to work? .. My friend has an internship with Goldman this Summer, I would ask him but yeah, he didn't start yet. Just trying to see what it's like to intern at some of these Financial institutions

sorry bro. i had alot of client interaction with institutional clients typically they invested in equities and in the banks prime brokerage business, like trying to see why a trade didnt go through. run a few reports, find research reports on whatever stock for clients. stuff that isn't really interesting, i had alot of down time, so i used to read all the research reports that the banks analyst put out, so i learned alot that way but not much from the work itself.

That doesn't sound that bad. Nonetheless, good luck on getting something long term.
