Truer words....

I get it.

Call me cynical. Call me pessimistic. But if the next person doesn't extend empathy for the greater good of humanity, why would I? Serious question.

It's like she said, at the end of the day all we can ever really do is try to be the change you want to see in the world. But if the change I'm bringing forth doesn't lead to changes being made by others... What was the point of my existence? Furthering the idea? Perpetuating the notion?

i'd smash

oh wait, wrong thread?

Deep stuff. It's something most people know on some level or another but like she said are to self absorbed to practice it.

First off, don't let the actions/outlook of the next man dictate yours.

Secondly...yeah. If everyone just said forget it and gave up where would an idea be? How do you expect to effect change if you just throw up your hands when you don't see the immediate results? If everyone shares the same defeatist attitude then that's that...the idea is dead. It's those that press on, even if they don't see a general change around them, that keep the idea alive. Now, I'm not saying run around and hug everyone, but showing compassion and opening yourself up to the world benefits yourself as well as others. What's there to lose? You only stand to gain from it.

and yes...I would smash.

I agree with her and I often think about these things and how it seems that people in general seem to lack empathy for those that they don't align themselves with(culturally, ethnically, religiously, phenotypically etc). I've thought about it for years and can never find a simple answer. What she said about you have to be the change you want to see and HOPE that is making a change does seem to be the only way. I agree. I believe even if its small, the idea that you can make a difference and hopefully ingrain this ideology into those around you so they too can spread it is a legitimate course of action. But that takes diligence and confidence that its all worth it. This reminds me of when Game contacted artists to make a song dedicated to Sean Bell and they turned him down and how upset that made him. It was frustration. It seems in this society at least, "doing you" is the path of least resistance and that worrying about others will stifle them time wise and financially. With this in mind, I'd say this one of the main reasons most people just don't care.
