It doesnt sound really important, but on a larger scale of things, that is information that can be used to completely track your life down to every last detail. And what would that be used for? If you only knew... Look at the big picture...

aka you have no idea.

If someone knew every small detail about your life, how easy would it be to predict what you are going to do next, or even what you're thinking about when you see a certain image? I'm not going to go into small details, because I find that argueing stuff like this is often useless, but "do your own research and then form your own opinion about our government and society" is the best advice I can give you.

And you're right. "The more you know, the more you know that you dont know anything."

You mean...targeted advertisements? Honestly, ANYTHING you put on Facebook you did so willingly, for the most part(besides tagged pictures). You chose to put what music you like, movies, sports, etc. Other than targeted advertisements, you still haven't explained to me "this picture." What exactly is the man going to do with a video of me chugging a pitcher of beer? Enslave me?

Honestly it's all about creating a formula ... that better predicts actions and impulses .... while taking into account minute differences ...... the best way to do so is simply collecting a large amount of data regardless how insignificant the individual might believe it too be ...
.
.
It all breaks down too how can I get you to do what I want you to do without you knowing it ...... meaning how best to limit one's choices without that person ever realizing what I'm doing .... so the outcome could best serve me ...... who that ME is .. is up for debate ... as well as the purpose this all serves in the end

Well said.

if you got nothing to hide whats the big deal? yeah i understand privacy but if the gov't came up to me with any info from my fb i'd go yeah okay and.

paranoid people, just like the whole digital cable they're watching you nonsense.

1. Your faults for putting stuff up.
2. Quite frankly do we believe this will be used for the wrong things?
3. It's not just Facebook.
4. Do you think the government cares what's your favorite song unless it has some security issue?

trust me, If they want to know something about you, They would. The idea behind warrents and all that jazz is to get us to believe that they cant control us.

The info I have on there is no info that they (the govn't ) couldnt have gotten if they looked anyway.
Don't think they can do much with my favorite music or movies.

its extremely easy to catalog information on people in facebook and other online services. not everyone necessarily needs to worry because they dont put theirlife on blast on facebook. but take for example, im sure some of you guys have friends that dont really restrict what kind of pictures they have of themself onthere. all your data can easily be saved and associated with your name, so if someone puts up and tags a pic of you wasted at a party, with a couple ofstrippers, puffing on some of that Patrick Hazey, it takes less than a second for a computer to save that image of you, and put it with your name. and nobodyneeds to even be doing that, they can easily have programs that immediately backup EVERYTHING associated with you, even if you untag or delete. Okay, whatever?cool right? if all this information is in a database somewhere, maybe years from now you want to be in public office, or something similar. maybe 20 years fromnow, people have less rights than they even do now, and large corporations and companies are able to look any of this information up. all it would take islooking into a database(which is easily duplicated) and snoop around at the digital information available of you from the past however many years? and yes, they can have all their disclaimers, and their public statements about the safety of your information... but even organizations like our government doesntproperly dispose of their records 100% of the time. it goes beyond just targeted ads.

ya, you do all this FB stuff completely willingly, but dont think they need to have an army of big brothers, scanning through the millions of FB users waitingfor you to do anything incriminating. Anything and Everything you do can be backed up and kept in a database, for years to come, to potentially be availablefor people to look at and access easily, years down the road when doing the stanky leg aint poppin anymore.

also, small point. the laws are there to 'protect' you if you can prove that information about yourself is being used in a way you didnt authorize. Ifeverything is backed up on a "Facebook" database, and this database magically becomes available to employers, how are you going to prove that theydecided not to hire you based on that information? Just like the study where equally qualified candidates were not hired because they have 'African' or'Hispanic' sounding names. How do you prove that they didnt hire you based on that? You dont prove that, your just out of a job. So if any of thisinformation is at someone's disposal, they could look at every photo you have ever had on facebook, and go "Hmm, okay well this kid smokes reefer, hehangs out with dirty girls, and hes a slob. not interested." Not only that, but everything you do on the internet is associated with an I.P. address. Soeven if you pop on facebook or myspace with dummy information, any site you accessed with real information (school e-mail, banks) they can associate theseactivities with the same IP address. "Okay so his facebook account is Gucci Mane, but his school e-mail is John Doe", not only that, but an IPaddress can be tracked back to where you live, so house records can be drawn up to figure out who was using what, at this location, and when. And it doesntstop with social networking. Anyone can browse niketalk and back up this entire forum onto a database, moderators have access to view your IP address mostlikely(a forum i have adminship to i can view anyones personal ip address that goes to the site), which means with the click of a button, everything you sayand post about on niketalk, can be saved indefinitely.
