Uber loses license to operate in London, when will Uber and ridesharing business die

Man, they have had a rough 2019. Curious how much this will affect their move to their new HQ in SF.

I know in parts of Germany taxi associations made their own dispatch apps with profitable rates before Uber came to town. Most professional drivers went there and resisted Uber's unprofitable rates

rideshare model looks to be unsustainable on all sides. Unsustainable maintenance costs for drivers. Unsustainable operational costs for Uber/Lyft. It's just a ****** business model until an AV fleet is ready which will be at least a decade from now

ridesharing is completely unnecessary

What paradise city in the US do you live in where this is true? Don't tell me NYC or SF where the trains are late/broken/filled with fiends all the time or where taxis charge you $$$$ for a 30 minute trip. We don't live in Asia where taxis are affordable and public transportation is efficient

I have gripes with Uber/Lyft clogging up city streets and how they run their businesses, but at the end of the day, at least when I call them I know that I will get to my destination around a certain time or won't get robbed by taxi drivers.

I mean it's not even close; pre-Uber/Lyft days, a taxi from SFO to my parents' house used to be ~$100-150 depending on traffic. That same ride costs $40-55 with Uber/Lyft, which is still on the high end but a lot more reasonable

Why you even care? Complaining just to complain like a typical xennial. The drivers’ maintenance cost is none of your concern. Doubt you care about the companies’ operational costs so dunno why you mentioning it. You must be a salty cab driver.

My problem with uber is they tried to run the cabs out of business where the drivers were protected by unions.

then 5 years later they say uber isn’t protecting them...

I got no beef with uber drivers or uber users. I use it too when I’m on vacation but uber as a company is a trash company.

They’re a terrible company from that perspective but what can you do. They offer a superior service than what was originally available.

Uber still isn't profitable. I think the data they collect and the proprietary map they are building is the real value. Uber eats and Uber not really the main focus.

Tech companies are ok with not being profitable for the first few years. I think amazon wasn’t profitable for a long time. And yeah selling consumer data is big bucks.
