I know it was bots. Amazingly, I was able to cart, go to Paypal and what I thought was checkout in all of like 6 seconds......but then got hit with the out of stock message.

Pulled the trigger at 305 shipped on eBay yesterday for a 9. Risky, the seller has no feedback, but since eBay authenticates, I should be fine from that standpoint. More worried about the seller flaking and not sending anything.
