Unlocking Iphone 4 question....

I'm trying to buy my girlfriend an iphone 4 for christmas. But she has t mobile. I was looking on craigslist and saw that they are cheaper to buy if not jailbroken and unlocked. So what's the easiest way to unlock the iphone?

P.s- I'm assuming jailbreaking it is as easy as rooting for android...right?

Depends on the baseband..Currently 2.10.04 is unlockable (they've been saying there will "Soon" be an unlock for months)

So my advice would be before buying the phone, ask the seller what the baseband is...The original baseband 1.59 is unlockable but that was only the first batch of iPhones so that will probably be fairly difficult to find...If you got the iPhone when it first came out, you probably would have had it updated at some point which updates the baseband, making it unlockable

(not thread jacking) but can it run on 3G? i got a 3g on tmobile, n everyone says i cant get 3g, since its adiff freq, is that true??
got the phone for super cheap (trade actually) n its still better than my BB

It's true.  You won't be able to get 3G speeds on the T-Mobile network.
