My company has our 401k through there but I have made ROTH contributions through there as well. I like it as a whole. Lots of funds, low fees. You might not make an exuberant amount of money if you invest in individual stocks but you won't also lose money like that. I wouldn't recommend individual stock picking unless you know what you're doing it. Mutual Funds you can sort of set and forget. Which you want to do with your retirement funds.

Look into etfs.. vanguard has them. Do some research on different security types
