Verizon Wireless Users

I have an env touch with no data plan but i wanna buy an HTC, most likely the Incredible. I am thinking of getting it off of ebay and just calling the number to activate the number but will i be forced into getting a data plan? i emailed a verizon rep and they said yeah its required but I know they just say it just so u can spend the money on their data service. my boy has a droid with no internet data plan. can i get the phone with no plan?

To my knowledege...when you activate the phone, VZW will recognize it to be a "smartphone" and will automatically tack on the data plan to your bill.

they require it. like others have said, there is zero point to getting a smartphone without a data plan anyway. unless you either don't want to do ANYTHING with it or enjoy being charged thousands of dollars for transferring 500 megabytes worth of unwarranted data during the month.

i have a blackberry tour with verizon and i constantly use at least 500 megabytes a month... youtube, pictures, internet browsing, pandora or other streaming music... the list goes on.

I work for verizon so ask away with the questions. One, your boy is either lying or has no idea how to read his bill cuz he has a data plan fo sho unless hes rocking an unactivated droid. Two, just like it was said above whats the point of having a smartphone without a data plan? The phone is meant for internet related stuff, apps, internet email etc. its just needed. 29.99 btw is the price of the data plan.

i guess OP wants it so maybe he can use wifi if he wants internet and otherwise just use it as a phone with apps? or so he was thinking...

IMO that extra 30$ + tax is worth it...3G is pretty quick too if you're in a well connected area. i just got a tour and i don't think i can go back to having a regular phone...

btw, even crappy phones like chocolate touch or w/e's all require data plans now....if you don't want a data plan only thing you can get is some basic free flip phone.

Even with that thinking there are FAAAAR better alternatives to this situation on the market and all of them won't get you in trouble with billing if you somehow fall off of wi-fi.
