very quick blu ray question

I have a sony blu ray player with me and 300 on blu ray dvd but its showing the movie with the bottom and top cut off, when I hit display on the controller itsays its 480i, my hdtv can handle 1080p, how do I change this?

do u have an hdmi cable
and it all depend on your tv contrast ratio whether or not the bottom and top i cut off (yes even if u have a wide screen tv and widescreen movie it will notalways play with out the bars on top i know its stupid)

my tv is sony bravia 1080p 120hz
blu ray player is sony BDP S360 with hdmi cable
and 300 on blu ray

i dont get why its comming out on 480p with the bottom and top cut off

yea a sont hdmi cable to be specific, it was 40 bucks at walmart

I was having this problem a while back. This usually happens when you change TVs using the PS3. I bought a HDTV, and I took the PS3 from the SDTV to the HDTV. What you have to do is turn the PS3 off at the back, when you turn it back on at the back. Hold down the power button up front for about 10 seconds and thenlet go. You should see a message that says

"An available HDMI device was detected. Do you want to ouput video and audio using HDMI?"

After choosing yes both times, you should see a message that says the maximum resolution. Click yes to keep this setting.

some blue ray movies will have the black bars on the top and on the bottom and some don't have them at all

alrighty then then this blu ray player wasnt worth it to be hoesnt if its going to show with the black bars on top and bottom, the hdtv showing on cinemaxlooks better, so a firend of mine just wasted 300 bucks on a stupid blu ray for nothing? wow, igjht im so twisted and going to sl;eep thanx guys

you probably got the widescreen version hence the "cut off" top and bottom. for the 1080p go to the XBM cross bar thing sony uses for menus. undervideo settings or something like that, and change it to 1080p. btw, did u set this up with component cables and then plugged in the (over priced) HDMI cables?

That is normal. The problem Crank has is that it's displaying the picture in 480p only. It should still be 1080p...black bars or not.

Check your BD player settings. Make sure its outputting at 1080

have you never seen a widescreen movie or something? nothing is wrong with the blu ray player, you just don't know how to set it up.

the tv is sont
the hdmi cable is full hd 1080p sony

yet its still showing tih black bars on top and bottom

once again, YOU ARE WATCHING A WIDESCREEN MOVIE. that is why it's "cut off" at the top and bottom. it's not rocket science, before blu ray,it's been like that. go to video settings and fix the video out. again, not rocket science.

Even if you get it to display correctly in 1080p, I heard 300 wasn't the best movie to watch in blu-ray.

Unplug everything and start from scratch. That usually fixes things.

uh go to set up menu on ur BD player and change the resolution to 1080p

just because it has the black bars, doesn't mean something's wrong.

300 was filmed in 2.4:1.
on a 16:9 aspect ratio HDTV, it will not fill the entire screen without using the zoom option, which will distort the image.

if you want a movie that fills the entire screen without the bars, look for something filmed in 1.85:1.

there are several other aspect ratios that will fill the entire screen, but 1.85:1 is the most common.
