A government official says Michael Vick has been approved for release to his Hampton home and could be out as soon as May 21, according to a report from The Associated Press.

Initial reports suggested that Vick would be transferred to a halfway house in Newport News, but the official - who spoke on the condition of anonymity - said that because the halfway house was overcrowded, Vick would be released to home confinement at his Hampton residence.

Vick is currently at the federal penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kansas, serving a 23-month sentence for his participating in a dogfighting operation run out of his property in Surry County.
