I'm heading to NYC for the first time this weekend on vacation for about 8 days and was hoping to get some recommendations from the board. I'll be staying in the Manhattan area and super close to MSG. Looking for anything that you think someone should check out rather than the normal tourists spots, which I'll obviously be testing out. I searched through older threads but they all seem to be a little dated.

Places to eat?
Museums?
Shops?
Late night places to grab drinks/food?
Etc..?

Thanks NT

Morris Ave, courtlandt to be exact. South Bronx

I hear the bodegas have awesome chopped cheeses

Nah they can't be dated they pop up all the time.
I'm sure whatever was rec'd is worth checking still

Corner of Sutter and Mother Gaston stay lit uring this time of year...also how can we forget da heightz

Output is a cool afterhours club in Williamsburg..I believe it's free entry some nights..house music

Let's not forget the east side of Harlem. 116th st to 125th st and lexington to be exact. Gotta love the zombies that parade up and down those blocks all day long. A true NYC staple of culture

I second the pink houses comment.

Far Rock and Jamaica Queens are booming areas this time of the year as well.

Man I would even advise you not to check out the tourist areas. Especially because you are staying right near MSG. Maybe do a few hours tops, but do not make your whole morning/afternoon of it. There's so much to the city that you can enjoy more than the traps.

Make sure you go to Katz and get pastrami, preferably on rye with mustard.

I live 5 minutes away from far rockaway. Trying to remember if the kfc there has bulletproof glass in front of the registers. They do have a new checkers next to it.

Yall bugging,

It's summer, get you some quarter waters and icees from the bodega
quarter waters, lol...Do they even exist anymore?

Quick question. I grew up in brownsville, and E. Flatbush. We always said corner store never bodega. Is that a Bronx, Heights thing because of the latino population, or a new thing in all the boroughs?

Pink Houses are some of the last remaining bastions of authentic NYC culture.

So true, lol

I have no idea if quarter waters still exist. I assume they dont.
Same for those cheap icees that used to be the length of your arm as a kid

As for the bodega thing yeah it's mostly a South Bronx, Heights, El Barrio thing.
You can use bodega everywhere tho. Deli, corner store, bodega, we all know what it is

Not sure if serious

What's more NY than a deep dish from Sbarro's?
