Visiting SF in Mar and looking for suggestions/recommendations on:

-food
-attractions
-nightlife
-activities
-shopping

How's the public transit there? Should I rent a car?

Any help is appreciated!

All jokes aside, I'm going so SF in a few months with my wife. We plan to hit up union square, redwood park and a few dispensaries. I just plan to chill.

Everyone says to use public transportation rather than a car.

be sure to hit off the grid on fridays they got a bunch of food trucks

-Keep your headphones on at all times and avoid eye contact with the insane bums that spew profanities and urine on the streets
-Carry hand sanitizer with you at all times
-Prepare to get upset at the hipster infestation
-Stay north of Civic Center; any area in SF south of that is pure grime or doesn't have anything worthwhile to see. You can take Muni out to Inner Sunset/Richmond (west of downtown SF) which is a nice and clean area as well, and you can hit up the Golden Gate Bridge from there. Dolores Park in Mission used to have good views, but it got toned down after the renovation over the past few years
-Buy a Clipper Card and load a monthly Muni+Bart pass onto it for $85
-Do not rent a car (unless you drive out to the suburbs of SF which are much nicer but also kind of boring outside of restaurants); you'll spend more time looking for parking than driving
-There's a new rooftop bar called Cityscape which is supposed to be nice
-Check out Local Edition on Market Street; the cocktails there are pretty good
- Hopwater is a good place for beers (tons of beers on tap), but it also smells like hipster body must in there, so be warned
-Mikkeler is another good beer spot
- Golden Gate Tap Room is a large beer/casual cocktail spot with pool tables, shuffleboard, etc
-Japantown has many good Japanese and and Korean restaurants; this is the only area I hang out in outside of work
- If you're craving good Mexican food, there's some good spots in the Mission but I despise that area. It's better to take a 15 minute BART to Oakland and hit up the amazing taco trucks there and hang out around Lake Meritt
-Avoid anything on Turk and Larkin streets in the heart of downtown (if you go out from the central area they're fine)
-North Beach has good pizza and Italian food; it's a nice area in general but I don't go out there much since that's not my type of food
-Bring a jacket; the weather in SF is nice for most people but sucks for Cali standards (the rest of the Bay is much nicer). It can be warm one hour and then windy as @#$@ the next

Y’all really won’t have a good time if you have to drive and park in SF lol. Use BART (subway) and Uber/Lyft.

What he said (although I can tolerate the mission to go to Bruno’s or some of the bars) And if you want views of the GG try Lands End, Baker Beach or Crissy Field.

Good luck lol

True, some of the bars on Mission are good, but there's just too much grime and hipsters for me to enjoy it there for too long. I walk from Castro to take the 16th BART and it's still a complete dump out there (yet idiot out of towners still pay ridiculous rent to live there  ). My dad got tricked into moving to the Mission when he first came out here, and he moved us out as soon as he could

Speaking of views, check out Epic Steakhouse on Embarcadero. I usually don't eat there, but it's a great place for happy hour and an amazing view of the bay/Bay Bridge, esp. When it's lit up at night

anyone know where I could get dope shots of the gate bridge? pref a top down view.

Hawk Hill was a dope spot. Make sure you go to the highest peak. I would also check out Twins Peak.

This is true. I hope you didn’t rent a car. I’m glad i didn’t, Lyft was all I used. Saved more money and it was more convenient. Plus don’t have to pay valet/parking fees.

Do you guys recommend any dispensaries in the downtown/union square area?

Also, I assume that this is hipster heaven but are there any good house dance spots?

I haven't been to clubs out there in years, but Ruby Skye is the main electronic spot

driving around Ain’t as bad as people are making it. You can accomplish a lot. I just wouldn’t want to pay an Uber fair. But that’s just me.

I guess cause driving and the city for the first time will probably be the most stressful thing you’ll ever deal with.

I've lived in the Bay for most of my life, and driving ib the city still stresses me out/makes me mad. No parking, people blocking intersections, bicycle riding hipsters that cause traffic jams cause they act like they're in a car, people running red lights, giant and steep hills, Market Street...Nah not worth it

You end up paying more renting out a car, gas and fees than you would with Uber/Lyft.

Yea good luck driving to Union Square and finding free parking on a weekend. You'll spend 30 mins, end up paying $35 at a garage, and then ask yourself why you didn't take the 2.75 muni that literally drops you off at the center

Yup, and Hotels will charge you $15-$25 a night ON TOP of your resort fees just for valet/parking.

A couple of quick hitters:

- Definitely Uber around town, take public transit if you can also (might see some interesting things on BART but you'll be fine).
- If you like pizza try "Tony's Pizza Napoletana", a lil upscale-ish but delicious. If you want a cheap quick pizza, Golden Boy is good also.
- House of Prime Rib is phenomenal, but try and get any reservations in advance.
- Like SFC415 said, there's some decent spots in the Mission for mexican- El Farolito, La Taqueria come to mind. Oakland taco trucks are my go-to though (I also live in Oakland).
- If you like basketball, check out a dubs home game.

The Piers are cool to visit, I'd even recommend heading up to the Ghirardelli factory for some hot chocolate. Definitely hyped, but justifiably so.

-Walk embarcadero st. from Market to Aquatic Park.
-Union Square/Powell St.
-Divisidero St. for good clubs, food.
-Polk St.
-16th/Valencia for bars.
-Market St from 5th to Ferry Building if you like urban settings.
-Mission St. if you want to see some good Mexican food.
-Chinatown.
-Crissy field for good GGBridge shots and it's not too far from the city.
-Marina if you like that prep life.
-Little Italy for some good eating.
-I would say SoMa but, it's not really smart to wander around looking for bars/clubs aimlessly.
-I guess you can do Haight St. If you want sneakers or exploring all those antique/mystic shops and if you go there, you might as well go to GGPark.

If you want the small neighborhood feel w/o tourist theres: Irving St./Bernal Heights/Geary St./California St./Clement St. And Bayview.

Make sure you download a map and circle all the place we mention so you can find ways to take public transportation/MUNI. If you live that big city life already, it should be easy to figure it out.
