VLC Player files skipping

I did a google search and I couldn't find a way to fix my problem so I was wondering if anyone on NT
has experienced the same problem or knows of a way to fix it

So I downloaded VLC on my mac and it plays almost every type of video but there are a couple of files

that seem to skip during playback. Sometimes I'll just be watching something and for some reason it'll rewind a few minutes back for no reason

I am also not able to fast forward or skip to a section of the video

Has anyone experienced this or know how to fix it?

Is there a better media player out there somewhere?

do you guys think its the file itself or is it VLC

Another VLC related problem. my mp4 files are really distorted when I play. When I play them in quicktime they are crystal clear.
What seems to be the problem?
