Whats good fam
Im semi-new to Nike Talk in the fact that i recently made an account, but i knew about and visited the site for a while.
But to get to my question..... I wanted to know of a good place or point to start collecting shoes ie: dunks, forces, sb's.
Most of my friends collect/sell and they have TONS of shoes... that they say you can't find anywhere else....
I guess i want to get to that point but i want to start off slow...

Any help would be much appreciated...

PS: I know i may come off as a n00b, but hey.... Wasn't every one at one point?

start with what you like not whats popular of collectible, i dont buy shoes that other people like i buy what i like. start with that.

Dont say we didnt warn you, but you dont want to start collecting, its a very bad habit.

Something i would recommend is start buying what appeals to you, sneakers that you like...and slowly buying more and more. Throughout that experience, othersneakers are like an acquired taste, you will soon want to have more.

Something i would not recommend to start off with, are recent Jordans...maybe cop a few of the Retros of the OGs, but i would stay away from anything JordanBrand these days.

Anything can be found, just depends on how much you feel like paying.

And just buy kicks you like.

So far, so good. Thank you. ima start looking right now for something that looks cool to me...

It all depends on your style and rock your kicks and don't let them sit in a box so you an brag about it, shoes are to be worn.

Terrible habit.. i started in 9th grade and have yet to learn how to stop..

you don't have to say you want to "start collecting" just pick up what you like, then next thing you know it you have 100+ pairs of shoes.

yep... pretty much echoing the sentiments here... go with what you like... some guys like Air Max's, while some might like Jordans. A Jordan-head mightcome in here and tell you that you should start with every numbered Jordan, but that would be pointless if you don't even like the shoes. Ultimately itsyour collection, so there's no point in buying shoes don't appeal to you.

Thread jack warning. I was just about to do a post on the opposite when i saw this. When do you stop, when is enough enough? I am thinking about stopping coldturkey but i know that the minute i do Nike is going to retro something hot or that has sentimental value to me. Imo you really just need two colors for shoes, white and black for casual and the court. But like alot of us on the board, you like one cw of a shoe then when the next one comes out you have to have thatone. It's a vicous cycle that non shoe heads will never understand. The only reason i don't have a lot more shoes is because of the area i am in thereal limited and qs stuff is unheard ,of S.C sucks. When do you kill the addiction? P.S. I don't even do Jordans. As for the op. Buy what is hot to you, please don't buy into the hype. For instance i know a lot of cats that brought the Yeezys did so just because of the name/hype and shelled out a lot ofcash for what and they prob don't even like the shoe.

Def echo the sentiment of buy what you like not whats limited or hyped.

Watch for sale time. Check out the outlets. Check the buy / sell lounge. Get friendly with the guys at your local shoe spot.

yea just get what you like. catch some sells get some hook ups on the 50% and next thing you know youll be sitting on 100+ pairs. im to the point where i gottastop buying kicks

dont have anymore space and the wifey flipping

get what you like. some people like the exclusive shoes, which is not bad. just have to be willing to sacrifice. you can also visit some Sneaker sites our seethe showcases in here to see whats good. Welcome to NT!!!!!!!

couldn't have said it better myself...

well..... i dont believe anyone on here just said one day "i want to collect shoes". I think most were just buying sneakers and the number of pairsin the closet started to grow. Or others like myself, had certain shoes when we were little that started our love for them as we grew. Such as myself. When iwas younger i lived in my grammas 2 story apartment building with my uncles and mom because i had no dad so my uncles were father figures to me. so i use towatch NBA all the time with my uncle who loved Michael, and every time a new jordan sneaker came out he bought it and when i saw them i loved them and my momwould buy them for me. So you got to find something you love man, nobody buys shoes to collect them they do cuz its a part of them. So you gota find out whatsa part of you wether it be Dunks, Jordans, 95s, etc.

'noob' is a lame term to use to address others with.

but in all honesty it doesnt sound like you're in it because you like shoes.

what it sounds like is that you're in an environment where a lot of people around you are collecting and you want to be a part of that.

however these are the pointers i will state.

RULE#1 and this is a rule i cannot stress enough.

DO NOT GET EATEN UP BY THE HYPE.

seriously if you want to get into collecting, get into collecting because you like shoes. not because that's what's 'cool' or becausethat's what your friends are doing.

there is nowhere you 'should' start.

buy what you like because you like them. not because they're limited or special editions, not because they're popular and not because they're rare.

who gives a ++*% what your friends have? never buy shoes because they're the pair that everyone else has at the moment.

wear everything. no matter how rare. shoes are meant to be worn.

and if you keep some pairs DS, then plan to definitely wear them in the future. every shoe is going to eventually breakdown within a few years no matter howwell they are stored.

Terrible habit.

Dont say we didnt warn you, but you dont want to start collecting, its a very bad habit.

Word.

entirely serious.

if you'd at all like to save yourself TENS OF THOUSANDS of dollars over the next few years then now is the time tostop.

it really doesnt sound like you're truly interested for the right reasons and you could put that money into something that you yourself are actuallyinterested in.

My collection is mostly ACG and Trainers, because that's my style. I don't buy hype. I buy what appeals to my senses and to actual practical use, gofigure.

Clutchshooter hit the nail on the head. Do it cause you love it not because its what your friends are doing. Becoming a shoe collector afficionado will put you in the poor house overnight.

for most people being a "collector" just happens. its not really something people aspire to do. they just have love for a particular pair and thatturns in to wanting more and more and before you know it you've spent more money then you thought and have a bunch of kicks around the house.

^Exactamundo,
that is what happens for the most part. Its just a fasination i believe for some people. I used to always love seeing the older kids at my school dress freshand it didnt help since my father dressed nice and shopped on a daily basis anyways. High school turned me out with the fashion, i was already fresh howeveronce you enter into jr high/high school its on a whole different level and seeing kids that just had income to blow on every single colorway that dropped inthe og air jordan 13s was incredible to me. I was always used to obtaining one color for each season, that was it. I always had shoes and kept them clean, itjust turned into an hobby for me. I turned into a fanatic when Niketalk first started up and i saw people posting pics of their collections with shoes still inthe boxes! That right there blew me out of the water because i did not know that people kept the shoe boxes to put their kicks back into so i started to do thesame thing. Ten years later and i am almost at 200+ pairs. I feel as if you shouldnt even have to ask about where you should start. MyFeetStank said it best. When i was in elementary school i always had the latest kicks however i would say to myself, "I'll be glad when i can get older so i can copp everypair of shoes that i want and have a bunch of them." That dream is now a reality as i have nothing but sneakerboxes in my closet. I barely even have roomleft yet i still find myself purchasing more and more sneakers. My family said that i would get out of it and that it was just a phase. I thought so as wellhowever i just like shoes so it hasnt went away yet and i dont even know if it will. My family also thought that i was obsessed at around 50 pairs, only ifthey could see my stashspot now lol... Do what you feel kid, if you really feel like this is your scene then fine, if not then do something that makes youhappen. It shouldnt be about where you should start off, it should be about what you like. Purchase what YOU will be happy with. Take care.

i know its a different forum...but id start with jays before the prices get outta hand...regular nikes are cheaper, and always will be...but other than thatlike everyone said, get what u like..but id start with jordans if thats what u like, cuz pretty soon ull be paying 200 for a general release
