Wathcmen...revisited

So I'm reading through the Fight Club thread, not to say that movie wasn't a complicated introspective look at the human psyche, but why do people saythe watchmen suck and don't give it the same look as people give fight club. I think the Watchmen is one o f the best critiques of humanity that cinema hasseen in a while, trying to make people feel the same way or atleast understand it.

when Watchmen first released many complained about how borign it was but they did not see how perfectly the movie was adapted from the comic.

I watched it on DVD and was blown away

--Agreed. The complexity of Watchmen (book/movie) makes it vastly overlooked and under-rated.

idk if you were referring to me or not.. but anyway, i agree that the movie was deep, complex, etc etc.. but i just can't get past how bland and boring thescript/pacing was.. and i think alot of people can agree with me on that.

Read the book, it gives more insight and detail. I read it for my English class and loved it.

i really enjoyed the graphic novel, but not so much the film.
it just didn't seem to transfer over very well.....same for fight club btw

Yes it is a introspective look at the human psyche and ppl with superiority complexes and GOD complexes. Rorschach, Mr. Manhattan, and Ozy were the core ofthis story and it made you think.

I'd honestly say more so than Fight Club eve though they're both different.

Word, those were definitely two things that were done justice when brought to life on the big screen.

While I feel Watchmen is immensely underrated, I believe the reason why people don't look for any meaning in it is because it is still "just a comicbook" story to them. Also, a three-hour movie that at sometimes references its own source material can easily lose viewers who would have otherwise lovedit as much as we and other fans did, had they known all the nuances of the graphic novel.

The movie is extremely boring, and this is coming from someone who read and loved the comic.

It glosses over the finer points the comic makes, making it rather dull.

Yo, check out the Animated Graphic Novel. After seeing all three, I'd give it to that, it manages to keep the eye while still keeping to the original plot.The movie ending pissed me off.

--But the movie being slept on IMO. Its possibly the best and only movie adaptation we will see in our lifetime. It aint perfect like the book. But stillappreciated.

Yes but the overall criticism on society and human morality remains intact and that's all that counts with this movie. Some of the stuff in the novel addedcharacter development but in regards to the deeper meaning, %%@@ is superfluous. I also prefer the movie's rendition of the fake attack to the novel. Themovie version made more sense IMO. I mean aliens?

Had I read the novelbefore watching the movie, I probably would not be making this post. But Alas, I watched then read.

Some of y'all think the movie was boring. I can only imagine sitting to a panel for panel version of the movie with every flashback and side storyincorporated.
Sex, graphics, and gore kept the more simple minded viewer entertained long enough to validate their ticket purchase. At the same time, enough of the story waskept intact so those of us with half a brain were able to appreciate the movie for it's true intention. The only people who got short changed were thepsuedo-cult elitist who expected the movie to be more true to the novel. And, I've already addressed that issue.

im DLing the movie as well right now, gonna watch for the 2nd time w/ an open mind.

i watched this in theaters expecting a TDK-like experience (maybe that's why i was so disappointed).

I'm writing a paper on Rorschach and the role of the anti-hero for a class right now. So yeah, the book is appreciated for the most part. Just hated how itended.


Still haven't seen the movie, though.

They always said it would have been IMPOSSIBLE to make a movie adaptation of Watchmen, and I think it was done as well as possible. It wasn't perfect byany means, but it was hard to translate a lot of the theme and impact into a film.

The graphic novel was a lot better, I still need to re-read it.

A couple of points I'd like to make;
Almost every scene from the movie, there is a corresponding frame from the book. It seemed like they just used the comic as there story boar.
Every line from the movie is a l ine from the book
I'm starting to think "it didn't translate well to film" is becoming a buzz phrase
Literally( I counted) not 7 min goes by in the movie without some form of action....what more do you want?
