I'm looking to move from eBay and open up my own webstore.  I am moving from eBay for numerous reasons but the main one being the Final Value Fee.  They are charging me hundreds a month.  I was wondering if opening a webstore would be cheaper or what the deal is with fees and stuff.  I was looking into webstore.com but I don't know if there is enough traffic on the site as compared to eBay or even in the same pool.  But basically I'm looking to see if anyone knows a good place to sell my own sneakers and socks and clothes where I won't be charged huge fees every time a transaction is made.
I appreciate any help!

MPs/BSTs are the only other places I kind find with a smidgen of the traffic.

i've tried this before...spent some time with ecrater. no fees, same setup as ebay, but there's just no market.

problem is, their traffic is nowhere near the same as ebays so you just end up waiting around for months to make a sale. my numbers (although probably different from a lot of others) - i had 15-20 items on ecrater...i've been on that site for over 3 years and have, literally, made 3 sales through it.

with ebay, yeah, you're getting charged a lot, but you're also getting more exposure than any store in the world. you're also getting rid of inventory a lot faster. there are ways to get around certain fees but for the most part, what you're paying to list your items is worth it.

Same position as you OP.

Ebay charges a alot in fees, even after the 20% top rated seller discount im paying a few hundred a month. Problem is having ur own webstore will not bring in a good amount of traffic unless u plan to invest in some marketing.

What i did to cut down the fees
- Offer return customers a discount so the next time they buy from u it is directly through paypal. I have individuals that only buy DLC from me now
- Develop connection overseas - i sell DLC in bunk to individuals in the UK that turn around and sell on their own site or ebay.co.uk

or

- Increase your asking price but offer something that sets you apart from the rest

Yeah what I have tried with moderate success to escape eBay fees is to have the buyer pay from a separate invoice I give them to paypal and cancel the auction after they win it to receive the final value fee back in credit. I don't do it too much otherwise eBay would catch on and it could be seen as fraudulent but thats the only way to get back for fees... I might try soulcollector

(never sold on there before) but eBay has taken over the market and are charging outrageous fees but your stuff will definitley sell within a month or two MAX on ebay.... and there are some crazy people on Ebay willing to pay top dollar for stuff.

I try to sell mostly on NT, but I do give most NT'ers a discount from what I'd get on ebay.

Going to niche forums could be a good idea...I usually don't have an issue moving Nike's on this site. For obvious reasons.

ebay attracts a lot of buyers because of it's buyer protection program, plus people will feel afraid to buy from a site they don't know of. I hate eBay's value fees and prices but they have so much stuff you have to buy from there sometimes
