Im guessing an elaborate wedding cake will take more than days to accomplish.
If the design takes up to a week to finish then that means that the cake is sitting there for that amount of time. Nothing tastes better than fresh bread.

this will mean that by the time the wedding happens the cake will be of inferior quality inside but still look amazing outside.

seems pretty pointless to have a cake after all.... it looks nice but it tastes like #$+%

discuss... anyone who has eaten a good looking wedding cake should chime in cause Ive never eaten yet alone been to a wedding for the cake.

From my experiences they get the cake design down, but dont get it in until the day of. Cuz you cant put em in the fridge, and it cant sit out.

They do it the day before, and depending on the cake's exterior (frosting, icing, whatnot) they do all the finishing touches afterwards (taking into account the weather and time of season, hopefully)

Look at Twinkies; same diff, beautiful exterior, and if watching Zombieland is any clue that stuff can keep forever....

Just kidding, if you're getting married, congrats, just remember to keep the cake budget to under $1K, go for various flavours if your cake maker/baker offers you that option, just watch out for the guests w/nut & or gluten allergies

so I guess im the only one that likes cake a couple days after baked lol

It's not even about the cake, IMO.  However, it's something that most wedding have.  It's part of the ceremony/tradition.

Best part should be the food that's being catered and the drinks.

Outside of cutting the cake me and my wife didn't even eat the cake at our wedding.  We have the top saved in the freezer at home so we can break it out on 9/9.

cake & bread are completely different food groups. One is sugar & eggs and the other is yeast & water.

Although most weddings cakes have generally tasted ok, most people don't really care about the taste. Most of the things you actually remember from your wedding are from the pictures which is why the photographer is the most important thing to consider when planning a wedding. It doesn't matter how good the dress looks. If the photographer can't catch the detail and brilliance of it, it was just a waste of money.

i had 2 cakes for my wedding. one was our traditional fancy looking picture cake, and the 2nd was a cake that my wife had commissioned for me as a surprise (it was a UFC octagon cake since I'm a huge MMA fan). I didnt have a bite of either cake since I was too busy running around during the reception, but from what I was told it was quite good.

We had a fairly large wedding (250 guests) so our cake person had baked a sheet cake in the same flavor/colors once the regular cake ran out. i dont know if our picture cake was made the day of or not, but if it wasnt, im assuming the people who got served from the sheet cake lucked out.

They make them fairly quickly the day before or day of. I good bakery can do a quality cake fairly quickly
