What do I need to know when purchasing a new TV?

Hey NT, I'm moving out on my own soon and saved up quite a bit and I'm looking to buy a new TV for my living room. I've been looking around but I was wondering is there anything I need to know when buying a new TV. I want to buy the best quality Television I can get for anywhere between $1000-$1300. Your help will be greatly apreciated!

Haven't even looked up the price of a Smart TV but I'm pretty sure that's way out of my price range!
