We all know mixtapes are a big part of music... especially since in the year of 2009, Mixtapes>>>> Albums...

I was wondering what you look for in a mixtape. In the No Ceilings thread a few weeks ago i saw ppl complainin that Wayne was all over the place and blah blahblah

Me personally i'm just lookin for straight up spittin. Raw rap, showcasin their lyrical ability, flow, creativity, all that. Not necessarily conceptualsongs or very well constructed songs... if they decide to, cool. But i'd rather they save those for the actual album...

SOOO... what do you look for in a mixtape?

Hmm... That's a good question and now that I think about it, I'm not sure.

I guess it depends on the artist.

I 1000% agree with you about 2009 Mixtapes > Albums

But what I think makes a mixtape good is the "re-listenable" factor.

Case in point, that Lil Wayne mixtape lyrically went in, but since it wasnt ground breaking by any standard there was no point in giving it more then 2 spins.

Mixtapes this year that did it for me were
-Wiz Khalifa's Burn After Rolling (and How Fly)
-Trey Songz Anticipation
-Mike Posner One Foot Out the Door and A Matter of Time
-J.Cole The Warm Up
-Mick Boogie and Terry Urban Present Wild Young Heartbreak (The Noisettes)

As good a year as 2009 was for albums, mixtapes took it this year.
