How do you know a seven year old is going to be great at such a young age. I think 15 and 16 is fine... but at 7 years old how do you know someone is going to be great? I guess thats why i'm not a talent scout

Real Madrid have attempted to steal a march on arch-rivals Barcelona by signing a seven-year old Argentine named Leo.

Leonel Angel Coira was reported by Argentinian sports daily Ole to be the youngest ever signing by Madrid, although the club denied this. He will begin training with his new side on September 6, although it may be a few years before he's ready for first-team action.

In a move that may not please ardent Real fans, Coira told Ole that his idol was Barcelona striker Lionel Messi and that he preferred to make an assist than to score a goal himself.

Atletico Madrid were rumoured to be interested in the youngster, but Real pounced to complete the deal with his father, who said: ''It looks good when I say it because I'm the father, but I'm excited to see how he plays with the ball.''

people always scout players and if it works out you look like a genius

my step brother was considered a future first rounder in baseball at the age of 11-12, now he is playing on a D3 school team...other kids just caught up to him, it happens

if he starts kicking butt at an early age its def a sign. but its not like that kid was signed to the squad, he got signed to their youth academy. which happens a lot. they're prob hyping this up because of future messi comparisons

lucky kid, but it just puts a huge amount of pressure to succeed at such a young age.. who knows what could happen

i understand taking risks but from other articles i read i gathered its rare for european clubs to scout players from around the world at such a young age (7yrs). It seems like 13-15 year olds are the norm. The british and argentine articlesi read make it sound like he could start for real marid in a few years. Even the espn one says:

"...will begin training with his new side on September 6, although it may be a few years before he's ready for first-team action."

Even if he started at 16 it would be a first for RM.
