Give examples please

If you did have one how would you break out of that mentality?

Is it a way of thinking?

I'm trying to understand this concept?

...a hood mentality is a closed mind.

....a closed mind that cant see past the confines of their 'hood'.

...Common once said:

"Found it hard to imagine he hadn't been past downtown"

^ thats the individual with a hood mentality.

If thats the general definition, then we HAVE TONS OF members on this site with the Hood Ideaiogy. That "stuck in my borough/Project/ mindset" is what I call it.

"I asked my mans how traveling the world sounds..."
:pimp:

yup. another one comes to mind is like on The Wire, when Old Face Andre ent to Prop Joe to hide him...and Prop Joe said (basically) why you fools think crossing town is like the other side of the earth?

Hood mentality is getting something done despite lacking proper materials without and not following any social restraints or etiquette.

They have some BS on this thread. I'm from the hood and in New Orleans, even the good neighborhoods (in the inner city) are VERY close to the hood. You can't escape it unless you're in the super-rich parts of the city.

People typically think that errybody from the hood doesn't care about life or whatnot, and that's false. I have a college degree and so does majority of my family. I know others from around the way that make a good living. The bad apples make it bad for everybody. Those are basically the lazy mf's that don't wanna work for anything so they blame the government for why they ain't s**t.

I noticed somebody said something about getting a scholarship and getting busted for weed. Those dudes, for the most part don't even be from the hood. Tyrann was from an average neighborhood in the N.O. Hell, we went to the same high school (St. Aug. I graduated with his older brother in 2005). He just made some bad decisions (even though I don't think weed is that damn serious.. really).

The difference gap isn't that big.. but it's there. It's all basically on how you're raised. If your people are on you, then you're more likely NOT to have that mentality. If not, then *shrug*.. It is what it is..

It's when a person doesn't know, doesn't care to know, can't think nor sees beyond or outside of their own community. Some choose to be that way while others have no choice.

:smh:Alot of NYer's suffer from this mentality.

Hood Mentality: Thinks the only way out of the ghetto is through entertainment or illegal activity

/thread

If you haven't lived in a hood you shouldn't be able to post. Although it can be negative I like to think of it as making something out of nothing.

I agree with it also, and the hood mentality can be plenty different things. Some people may look at sneakerheads as being in the hood mentality. Yet are the same ones that collect expensive wallets.

It comes down to the person, and culture they were grown in I believe over plenty other things.

Born in West Dallas and raised in Oak Cliff..guess you can say i have that hood mentality.

lol at most post in this thread.

Waiting in line for hours to buy some kicks.......... but feeling like waiting in line to vote or for a college or job fair is absurd.

Hood mentality is when you own two copies of "Hood 2 Hood" and explain to your college friends the educational purpose of the DVD.

It is also dislikes for everyone who attends college because you will not accept the fact that we are to grow old and you want to stay "forever young"

A lot of people change for the worse once real life hits them, I have't found it much of a big deal. I am living for the moment. I am shoveling out of a grave I partially didn't put myself in... I have a hood mentality but it's educational eventhough I'm losing my ability to spell and etc.. from the stress. I just can't be around fake people that change once they get a little money. I can't stand the suburbs.

"It's not for everybody" ironically this concept has helped me eliminate useless people/things out of my life.
