Whats good NT fam...
I'm currently thinking of purchasing a pair of kicks from a fellow NT member, but in all my years collecting I have never made a purchase that was not through an official site. I will be paying with PayPal, but I want to make sure that I'm fully protected so that worst case scenario I can still get a refund and preferably without too much trouble. I am aware that the person has recs, but still I want to be sure. If someone could please give me a breakdown of how to best do this it would be much appreciated. I know I've heard some of you guys mention paying an extra 4% of w.e and stuff like that, but I never knew what in the world you were talking about.

Thanks in advance

There are two ways you can pay through paypal
1. Regular way - covered in the case of a scam but Paypal charges you 4% of the payment
2. Payment as a gift - not covered in the case of a scam but paypal does not charge you extra.

^ Perfect. Other than paying the 4% should I just follow the normal Buy/Sell rules and get the agreement posted?

yeah. put the details of transaction in comments of paypal with the link of item.

yeah make sure the dude updates through the thread ie with tracking and whatnot. you want everything documented in multiple formats if possible

Always in person and with a hammer in your back pocket.

Thanks for nothin. At least make that %+@! funny if you're trying to add to your post count...
Thank you to everyone else so far
wut? what i do to you? its the truth
just pay regular paypal, not in gift, i guess u can add 4% if the seller wants but i never wanted it, nor cared to ask for it because its against the nt rules, i was simple n priced my stuff accordingly, i honestly never trusted anyone wanting 4% more

My bad g. I misinterpreted your post as saying that I basically shouldn't do anything...
If it's not a gift or 4% extra then what exactly would I be doing? Sorry once again, but I really have no idea what I'm talking about here...

The best way to avoid a scam is to only purchase from NTers that have good feedback and obviously value their NT account. The only problems I ever had were from people with new accounts.

Recently I have also started using Paypals invoice system for both buyer and seller protection. When selling I fill out a detailed invoice describing the item and condition and I request people I purchase from do the same.

Either send a money order or pay through western union.

NT restricts buyers from tacking on that extra 4% paypal fee, it's in the RoC, i believe
just send the money and a note, if anything goes awry then instantly file a claim so they know you mean business (you can easily drop it).  if they refuse to proceed, escalate the claim.  Give them 2-3 days.

If still nothing, go through paypal or just file a chargeback through your CC.

if you file a chargeback, your CC will take full control over the case and paypal is relieved of responsibility, i think.

also when doing a deal have everything said already

like

"ok i want them, when you gonna ship if i pay you today? your going to double box and include tracking correct?"

Pay with a credit card, NOT a debit.

Send the payment as a gift to save the 4%, which adds up if you plan on going on a binge.

If you're scammed, file a chargeback with your bank.

the safest way for you would be a private auction on ebay. then pay with paypal. but this may cause the seller unwanted fees. outside of ebay i would ask the seller to send you an invoice detailing the purchase via paypal, pay with paypal using CC as funding source (do not use debit card). make sure seller provides tracking info. if you don't get item file claim with paypal, if the item is not as described (used, fake etc) file chargeback with CC company.
