What laundry detergent are you using?

I started using Tide with bleach alternative. Really impressed with the quality of detergent.

Thoughts on Liquid vs. Powder? I see a good deal for Arm and Hammer Powder, but I have NEVER used powder detergent.

Wash cold.

Hang Dry. Especially now in the summer, no excuse to waste that electricity from the dryer

But I wash everything in cold water to save energy

Can't stand hang drying. Makes my clothes and towels feel like paper. Especially the towels feel like sandpaper when they're hang dried

Just my M&N jerseys, or other shirts/pants that say hang-dry only.

Never had an electric bill over $100...

I figured most folks did the same, unless they took it to a dry cleaner.

The only thing that goes into the dryer is undershirts, underwear, wife-beaters, socks, sheets, towels, washcloths

I am sure if I didn't, my energy bill would be greater than if I didn't.

I use Woolite dark for colored clothing.

Works wonders.

Some cat just gave my mom a pro tip about how he uses this simple concoction to soak his black clothing before wear & supposedly it keeps it looking new after numerous washes.

Will attempt & report back.

I'm with you on all of that except washing everything in cold water. I wash my whites in hot water and my towels and wash cloths. Everything else is in cold water and I hang dry dress pants, jeans, work shirts, polos, hoodies, sweaters, and button downs. T-shirts, socks, boxer briefs, towels, sheets go in the dryer.

You should probably use a fabric softener if you aren't, or a better one if you are. Your clothes shouldn't feel like that from hang drying. Plus I don't know why you are doing it but your towels will benefit from being dried in the dryer. Hang drying fully wet towels doesn't give it that fluffly look and feel.

When I originally bought my Washer, I had the convo with the salesman about it. Also, there was a big push in DC a few years ago about energy saving. They were going door to door discussing ways to save energy. They essentially put this into my head

Reduce Carbon Emissions by Switching to Cold Water. Energy Star states that almost 90% of the energy consumed by a washing machine goes to heating water. Switching from hot or warm water to cold water washing saves that energy.

this except I throw it all in the dryer for 5 minutes to reduce wrinkles and stiffness then hang dry
