You'll have to check support.yuku.com to report that issue - it's nothing on our end. That you're seeing the generic image provesthat your avatar IS set to display. Beyond that, it's either something you can fix by going in and replacing the avatar in your images, or something theYuku team needs to resolve.
cats got 3g connections these days...do i don't buy into that avator comment...hell even SK's can render avi's with the quickness....
Mobile devices can load NT pages within a reasonable timeframe BECAUSE we have these standards. Imagine how long it'd take to load theaverage page if all 20 avatars were 500kb or more. You'd have to download 10 megs just in AVATARS. What's the point in that?
Harsh truth: 99.9% of NikeTalk could not possibly care any less about your personal pic. Odds are you really don't care about the 10 second video clipbeing used by the person who posted above and below you, and they don't care about yours.
If everyone stands up at a concert, your view isn't improved. What you do to stand out causes other people to react, and the end result is worse foreveryone. What we're doing is the equivalent of making sure that everyone remains seated. Honestly, we should've just restricted all avatars to STILLimages - as that's the MOST efficient in terms of file size AND far easier to enforce - but we allow 150,000 byte images for our users' benefit.
When technology reaches the point where there are NO performance issues associated with larger file sizes, we'll adjust or release the restriction. Forthe time being, though, it does make a difference in the site's performance - and that's far, FAR more important than a 10 second video clipeveryone's seen 10,000 times and, likely, never cared about to begin with.
rap music has been pushed back to the underground....these mods don't understand "creative license" and on top of that you can't even see music videos on TV anymore so everything
is online and everything is pure and unedited.
but most of these mods are from lil towns in small ville, USA so they probably don't "get" rap music anywayz....
Go visit the music forum, seriously, and tell me that another genre of music has taken center stage. It's just not happening.
Simply because something's on television doesn't give you rebroadcast rights. Take an NBA game, for example. That's on TV. Do you honestly thinkyou have the right to record the game and post it on youtube?
You can claim that a music video is nothing more than a commercial and wouldn't be far from the truth - but that doesn't change the law. Unless therights holder puts the stream up, or gives permission to the person who does, it's unauthorized and, thus, illegal. We want no part of that. Thenthere's the issue of profanity, which has NEVER been allowed on NikeTalk.
We've had a rules reminder pinned to the top of THIS forum for over a year and we've warned and banned scores of users for posting videos containingprofanity. Remember the "juggernaut" video craze?
As for not "getting" hip hop... I really don't know who you think we are - but I've been listening to hip hop music since the late 80'sand most people don't consider Washington, D.C. a "lil town."
And I doubt record companies are trying to check out NIKEtalk but all it takes is one incident.
And the truth of the matter is we just want to run a respectful board. We could take the stance that it's just Youtube's problem, butwe've long opposed the facilitation of music/software piracy, or other criminal activities, in our forums and this is simply linear with that. IF welooked the other way on illegal youtube videos, people would then say, "well what's the harm in letting us discuss warez/torrents sites, then? Youlet us post youtube videos and those violate copyright law."
We're active in removing fake ads even though it's not our responsibility to do so - but google's. We're active in removing copyrightedimages, like those belonging to Nike, Inc., posted without their consent. It's only logical that we prevent people from posting videos that are beingbroadcast unlawfully.
If you find the LAW inconvenient, then your problem isn't with us - but with the copyright law itself. We're choosing to take the high ground on thisissue and, really, nobody has the right to tell us that we should allow you to use NikeTalk, a privately run website, to violate the law. You'd havebetter luck convincing your neighbor to let you sell bootleg videos in their dining room. If you want to risk it, YOU risk it. Don't ask us to acceptany risks on your behalf.
I think we give more than enough for our members' benefit, given that we've forsaken ALL profits and donated thousands upon thousands of hours of ourfree time to provide for this community's upkeep.
