What's today's hip hop message?

For the most part, the thesis of mainstream rap of today is "collect the spoils of success" -- which was an inevitability as soon as hip-hop becamemarketable and trendy. It's not an ignorant message, but it's fairrl materialistic. And seeing as rap arose from a culture that wasn'twealthy, rap has almost become a paradox in and of itself. You have to rap about having money to make money while still coming off as"real". And if you get "exposed", then you lose credibility. Even worse, if you don't get "exposed" then more often than not,you have to actually live in your lies and hope you do make it rich one day. and even when (if) you DO become rich, you could still stand to loseeverything the moment you make a bad public appearance or wear the wrong shirt or say the wrong thing. The rap industry is a modern day chitlin circuit. Howfair is that?

Something like: Don't be a rapper, make up a dance you'll make more money and be more famous.
