Don't mind me, I'm pretty bored right now, and the thought for this thread came into my mind. What's your Christmas Eve/Day rituals?

Christmas Eve I relax all day until it's time to go out to the relatives for the traditional dinner. Pasta, seafood, etc

. Then later in the night we tend to put on the Mass televised from either the Vatican and/or St. Patricks.

Christmas day I wake up, put on either the Yule Log or recently within the past few years, A Christmas Story (and tend to leave it on the entire day

). Open gifts with my parents, and my cousin/Aunt+Uncle come over for breakfast/gift exchange. From there, it's relaxation time until dinner, either at my house or relatives.

This year is going to be different for me my mother and father because of the situation we faced over the summer, but spirits are remaining as high as possible. I honestly think it's too hard to be miserable during the holidays. The combination just doesn't work.

Your turn, NT...

I stay over my mom's house on Christmas Eve with my girl so I can be there in the morning to see the kids open their gifts.

Not being able to sleep that night as an adult ftl

Midnight Mass @ Stella Maris in Kingston >> go home, sleep >> wake up >> watch the kids open presents >> head to auntie's house for the rest of the day. food, music, family, etc.
Christmas is the only time of year I see all my family.

Christmas day is a dead day for us.

Most Latino people I know do all the celebrating, eating, partying on the Eve, with the big ending at Midnight when we open our gifts.

We usually spend the 25th visiting others for the re-calentada, drop off gifts, and maybe go to the mountains for the snow.

How Non-Latino cultures  people wait til Christmas Morning to open up Gifts is beyond me

I tried it once as a kid, but couldn't do it.

Growing up, my parents would tell me that if I didn't go to sleep (when we got home from my relatives, probably 1-1:30 AM), that Santa would not come. From there I would Usain Bolt to my bed and force myself to sleep. Besides, how would the whole Santa-comes-when-you're sleeping routine work if I'm opening gifts before it was "Christmas morning"?

The whole thing was such a process

. I just wanted my gifts.

That makes more sense than the way we do it, but I can't imagine trying to do it Christmas morning when I have kids.

What I remember them telling us when we were super young was, when we'd head off to Mass is when Santa would swoop on by with the gifts.

We stopped going, and gifts would gather up as the holiday came closer.

Christmas eve starts at 9am at the docks to buy all the seafood.

Spend all day drinking and cooking

Spend all night drinking and eating

Dinner is all seafood (Wifes family is Italian).
