They're talking about it on Mike and Mike right now but I first heard about it yesterday on First Take.

The story in a nutshell:

- girls softball Div II game, with a spot in the NCAA tourney on the line

- player from Western Oregon hits a 3-run HR (over the CF fence) but misses the bag as she rounds 1st base.

- as she turns to go back to the bag, her knee goes out. she has to crawl back to 1st and cannot continue around the bases.

- rule states that any assistance from coaches or teammates the two runners ahead of her score but the HR is ruled a single.

- instead players from central washington - the opposing team - carry her around the bases, giving her the HR.

- central washington loses the game 4-2.

What would you do?

damn that's crazy. The way it looks, she was still gonna be up 3-2 but it's amazing to hear about the sportsmanship involved

Cen. Wash. would have lost anyway if the teammates had taken the 2 runs and the single, right?

Score was 1-2 already so the final score would have been 3-2 instead of 4-2. It was nice that they carried her around the bases though.

Sportsmanship is very overlooked.

And NT is the wrong place to ask for questions about sportsmanship. Case in point, it seemed like all of NT had no problem when the Pats ran up the score oneverybody. Me and gottagetdemj's were crucified when when we disagreed.

I think at the time it happened the score was 0-0. The HR made it 3-0, Oregon. But Washington scored 2 in the bottom of the inning and would've tied thegame if the girl wasnt carried off.

Ok I see...all the same it was a nice gesture.

And Wash still had a chance to tie or win so it kinda works out.

all jokes aside from this being a womens game, a softball game and d-2 game...wining isn't everything! proud of my home state and the great people andespecially women it's producing!

Nice work, I just heard about this on the radio on the way into work, I wanted to post something about it.

Very cool by the other team. Lotta class there.

they just interviewed the 3 girls (one with the busted knee and the two who carried her) on first take and it turns out the umps got the call wrong anyway. shecould've been replaced with another runner to complete the HR trot.

All I can do is applaud the opposing team. Thats real sportsmanship there.

I would have picked her up and carried her home, but have her intentionally miss 3rd base on the way there.

How come these things only happen in women's sports? I remember UConn women (hoops) were playing someone, and their star player tore her ACL in a previousgame. She was 2 points away from 1,000 (or something along those lines) in her career, so the opposing team in the next game let her hobble down before thetip, wait under the basket and she was able to score. It's kinda hard to explain, but pretty much after the jump ball, the opposing team didn't try andUConn just threw it down to the girl for the easy 2....

That's whats up...good sportsmanship by them...

Me my own personal self? Na...couldnta done it...I woulda been happy 2 help her back 2 the dugout or sumthin tho...but I'm damn sure not gonna help theother team score...I dont care if its a D2 softball, pickup 3-on-3 or a game of Madden...

Nakesha Sales right? Uconn wasn't it? I remember that game. That too was total class.

Ricky Davis trying to get himself a triple double has to be up there as well.

It doesn't surprise me coming form womens sports and having it happen here in the NW. I went to Wester Oregon for a term and had a class with the Womenssoftball coach. They want to win but they are still very classy. I think the difference is between the mens and girls on this is that if it happened to a guyhe would try to man up and do it himself. I think he would feel to ashamed for what happened and would try and probably succeed by himself.

Because men want to portray the MANLY. Winning is manly. Helping the opposition out is not manly (In h.s. i used to help the opponent off the hardwood if I wasthe closest to him, my teammates always shook their heads).

You are forgetting 2 things.

1) The Pats are grown men...playing other grown men...getting payed MILLIONS of dollars.

2) Their opponents were able to stop them. They just didn't

Anyways,
We are comparing men to women...men are much more competitive and in turn aren't as likely to show much sportsmanship. This was as classy as itgets. Alot of respect to those girls.
