When Visiting LA/Venice Beach is renting a car a must?

(I normally bike ride from Venice beach to Santa Monica, takes like 15 mins, Beautiful view too, bike riding along the beach).

Me and some cousins rode from Hermosa pier to Santa Monica and back yesterday. Great ocean views and ridiculous houses.

Church: Every time I'm in LA I go for a run along the beach from Redondo through Hermosa and up to Manhattan. Those houses are so dope 

 Would love to retire to one of those.
