But i felt this wasnecessary. I've been a fan of Eric Berry since his senior year in high school and knew that he'd be good.
But i can't say that i thought or knew he'd be this good. IMO probably the best overall defensive player i remember seeing in recent years. The TaylorMays comparisons disgust me

@anyone who thinks Mays and Berry are even on the same level as Safeties.

Anyway, i've been catchin a lot of flack due to my homerism of Berry a lot, especially this summer. But i know most of it is due to people who don'tknow too much about him or people being overwhelmed by Taylor Mays' measurables and thinks this guy is the second coming of Sean Taylor/Ed Reed/RonnieLott

I Just simply wanna know, from the NT College Football Purists, if Berry continues to play at a high level once again this season(assuming that he leaves forthe NFL after this year) where does he rank among the greatest defensive college football players.

Who's going to be the first *$$$*+# with the stiff-arm pic? And no, I'm not serious.

i am praying that the cowboys tank this season just so they can draft him next year ... we need him on our team ... he could probably start right now for us ateither safety spot ...

Hes right there at the top for me.

When I think of safeties....hes on par with Ed Reed and Shaun Taylor during their days @ Da U..........he's surpassed Reggie Nelson(only had about 1.5years of work).

The Best Defensive players I've seen since following CFB closely.

1. Charles Woodson
2. Julius Peppers
3. Patrick Willis
4. Shaun Taylor
5. Dre Bly
6. Eric Berry

before i make this next statement, let me say that Sean Taylor, during his time at the U became one of my favorite football players of all time(kind of thesame path Berry is taking) and i followed him very closely at Miami, even though i cant stand the U.

So, is it outlandish that i Argued with a good friend of mine that i'd take Berry over Taylor in college?

ummmm has he won any major defensive award? has he played in any meaningful games? Face it, no way he puts up the same numbers he did last year... playing fora mediocre Tennessee team, who does nothing of significance... he probably isnt even in the top 50... OF ALL TIME....

Hes amazing, my friend that plays on USC says hes 2x better than Taylor Mays, so that should say something.

He is a great player but he has played for some really bad teams which definitely hurts. I don't think you can put him up there yet.

Just below Sean/Ed/Champ for the best defensive back to come out of college over the last decade.
ummmm has he won any major defensive award?
Pretty sure he was SEC DPOY, 1st team AA (As a spohomore
sick.gif
),1st team all SEC, broke SEC Int returning yds records,

And awards, eh. Sean Taylor didn't in the thorpe award
ohwell.gif
Neitherdid Ed Reed.
has he played in any meaningful games?
Define meaningful. You mean bowl games? Well, his team sucks *@+. But what does that have to do w/ him as a player.
Face it, no way he puts up the same numbers he did last year
Sike. You can't avoid a saftey that is given the ablility to roam where ever he pleases.
... playing for a mediocre Tennessee team, who does nothing of significance...
Again, what does that have to do w/ anything?
Hes amazing, my friend that plays on USC says hes 24x better than Taylor Mays, so that should say something.

*fixed*

I mean, honestly, this guy may go down as one of the best players to come out of UT. Up there w/ Peyton and Reggie.

wait we putting him with the all time greats?
This is NT where we hype players to astronomical levels. Sports wisdom and knowledge don't make much of an appearance around these places and#!!+ riding is as common as a Honda Civic.

I don't really know enough about college football to comment, but I am pretty sure there are way too many Gunna fan's word to Bright Nikes. Is this kidreally an all-time great because outside of NT I have barely heard anything about him which may have been due to UT sucking but still.

You couldn't have been paying any attention to College Football if you haven't heard much about Eric Berry.

I'm not saying I haven't heard of dude, but on NT he is treated like a legend. In media sources I have seen, Taylor Mays>>>EricBerry

probably because USC gets more love than the vols...i've heard the media start to say berry > mays though...right up until and after thedraft they were discussing it. mays got more coverage because he was expected to leave school possibly, while berry was a safer bet to stay in school...ithink?
