I currently use 87 Grade gasoline in my car. I was told by a friend that I should start using the higher grade gas because it will help me get better gas mileage and its better for my engine, any truth to this? It would only cost me $ 4 more per fill up if i use the 92 grade, is it worth a few extra bucks each fill up or would i be wasting my money..??

*-I have an 08 Chevy Impala SS-*      I dont have the owners manual, wasnt in the car when i bought it.

Your manual should state which octane to use. I believe your manufacturer recommends 91+ for the impala.

87. not all cars need higher octane and i'mi pretty sure your car doesn't need it. all you are doing is wasting money while the car's not going to have any improvements. but some people in their head believe it does yield more power, mpg, etc although it's just psychological.

I doubt OP wants to put race gas in his car though.

You can get away with putting regular in that car, the ecu will compensate but you wont get the performance out of it you would had you put premium in it.

On the gas door of my 07 Maxima it says "Premium is recommended for maximum performance" but the dealer told me regular is fine. I was gonna treat my car to the 92 because of the lower holiday rates but eh..

Use whatever the manufacturer suggests.  If you use a higher octane, you're just wasting your money.  If your engine isn't designed to use it then the extra octane won't do anything for you.
