Any of you NTers recycle?

I'm asking as I've been at a new job for a few months now but have noticed that we don't have a recycling program in place so my small group of co-workers were just dumping bottled water empties and such into the garbage (I was told we have to apply for a city permit since they don't do blue box pickups here unless you apply to get the dump bin)

So I have taken to taking the recycling home myself (I drive) and putting it in the recycling bin in my apartment complex?

Call me obsessive but I have a little boy who just turned 3 & the crap I still see people throwing into the garbage that can be recycled or streamed for recovery is mindblowing... I'm trying to lead by example along with hoping my kid & hopefully his kids have some semblance of the planet I got to enjoy

Anyone else trying to do the 3Rs? (Reduce, reuse, recycle)

I'm skeptical how MUCH of what I put into recyling is actually recycled but IMO it's the effort that counts.

Nope. No kids so I don't care about the planet.

And I'm busy stacking paper to the ceiling and sitting on 24" chrome wheels to worry about the atmosphere.

We dont have them at work and honestly I don't think most of my coworkers even care about it. At home we always recycle.

I do. There are no recyclable bins at my job but I always recycle at my house.

I recycle If the option is present when I have something to throw away.

Some ****** at my office just do not care at all, everything gets thrown in the three bins (trash, recycling, compost).

recycling is easy here, and has become just another part of my routine.

at home, we have weekly recycling pickups... just put your bin out wednesday morning. no sorting or anything. only drawback is they don't take glass... you have to take that separately to a facility downtown (which i do).

at work, it's a little more effort... paper and plastic have to be separated. but the bins are right next to the garbage can, so there's really no excuse.

I recycle soda cans, water bottles, and newspapers. Thats it.

I do at home. Do all states have bottle deposit programs? I see people who stack bags full of emptys and get like $20 plus easy.

Buy a grean bin and put it somewhere at work with a sign for cans and bottles.

Empty it yourself and cash out on the recycling.

Your kid now has a college fund, you're welcome.

Its the law to recycle in Seattle.

I hate going other states/countries and seeing how different the mentality is. Im with you OP, I too do my part.

Every house gets a recycle bin where I live. Don't think you HAVE to though.


Should be a law really.

I do.  Here we have the recycle bank.  The green can the same size as the trash can

they pick up every other week and give you points for gift cards, magazine subscriptions etc.

Soda cans, I don't put them in the recycling bin,  I take them to a metal scrap yard

I do, but they don't have city wide recycling yet, just some do it yourself receptacles and it's a huge inconvenience to me but I still do it. The amount of plastic bottles, plastic bags, and cardboard boxes I go through is amazing. Every 2 weeks or so I load the car up and go drop everything off.

We didn't have recycling at my office when I started, they don't do commercial pickups but they do residential.  At my suggestion about 5 years ago, we got 3 separate bins and thankfully co-workers have taken the reins and bring them home for pickup.  Between the amount of paper that gets wasted and plastics, it's pretty bad to think how many local businesses might not be recycling either.

I'll hold onto items to find recycling bins if I can rather than just throwing them in the garbage.

At both work and home. When im home the bottles and cans we recycle get traded for money (recycle center), then we go buy more water lol.

Most definitely I do. Recycling isn't any harder than throwing things out. I have trouble respecting people who blatantly disregard recycling.

Also, bottled water? Tell your coworkers, they're wasting their money. If you are paying for bottled water, you are a sucker (obviously exceptions can be made for under-developed areas).

Aren't you suppose to recycle plastic by the numbers on the bottom of the bottle? Don't majority of the people who recycle not do that? Isn't plastic posing one of the biggest threats to us and our environment? Don't majority of the people in America not recycle? Isn't majority of the recycled trash getting shipped to other countries? Don't majority of the countries on earth not care about recycling? It's extremely late to start this now, we did the damage and the recycling movement is moving at such a slow rate that I just don't see it possible to reverse the effects. Plus there are thousands of other problems on this tiny little planet contributing to our demise. It's cool you recycle though, your a cool person I like you.

I recycle cans and bottles so I get the recycling fee back that I had to pay. I don't pick up cans and bottles that's in the trash or in the streets though. I recycle used motor oil/filter too.

btw don't worry someone goes through nearly all the trash and sorts out the recyclable stuff. at least by my moms apartment
