Who has had the most impact on how rap has sounded in the last ten years?

You just want someone to say anything but Kanye so that you can start an argument.

We see you.

to be honest, i think he was waiting for someone to say "not Kanye" instead of saying a name.

and you kind of played into that.

Depends on the genre. Guys are going to come in and get really silly with you if you don't clarify the genre.

EDIT: To answer, as far as radio rap is concerned, it's probably T-Pain or Jeezy to be honest with you. Come at me fools

I wouldn't say Beyonce changed the way music has sounded. More than anything she just took what was there and thrived.

Lol bait thread at it's finest. Wasn't even shy with the screen name.
Honestly as a mega kanye stan i think its kanye.

What led me to make this thread was that i was thinking of artists who have faded to Bolivia and i started thinking of people who have consistently remaind at the top for long period of time.

Kanye has been at the top since 2003/2004 and it does not look like he is going anywhere. He has evolved his sound so it never sounds stale and is always something new and intriguing. He is innovative. I think if other artists adopt the same approach they might be able to reach the same results.

whoever it is im willing to bet its not a music artist

that's what i was about to say

most of the most influential people in music are writing for all the popular artists

then the big name producers have a team of cats making beats under the big producers name

people id take over ye over this past decade as far as impact

beyonce
chris brown
rihanna
jay-z
eminem
usher

I agree it's Kanye as far as rap just off of how all of his albums after Graduation have birthed a sound and he helped usher in the soul sound of the early 2000's. People are going to disagree just because people love to argue about Kanye. For example, dudes naming Eminem over Kanye lol. Nobody sounds like Eminem lol.

Pharrell is in there (maybe for music as a whole) for somewhere because just on commercials, you hear Neptunes-like instrumentals to this day, same with Timbaland.

I can't speak on other genres because I don't really listen to them. But Timbaland, Kanye, Pharrell/Neptunes get the nod for rap/urban music.

Whoever said Jeezy is kind of on point, he and T.I. started what evolved to todays trap music. Toomp might get the credit for that. Singles like What You Know and Can't Tell Me Nothing could come out tomorrow and still be hits and fit right in with today's production standards.

Lex would get a nod if he didn't come out just in 2010. Every record today has a remnant of his drums. When's the last time you heard a song without that 808 and the rolling hi hats?

But as far as rap artists go, you could go on the first ten blog posts of any rap sites or 10 videos on MTV Jams and find something that goes back to Kanye, TIP, Hov or Jeezy.

Y'all boys right on time. Lol never fails.

someone like rick rubin who has been a part of multiple projects all over the music industry is more influential than any one artist.

rap is a very small portion of the music industry

Beyonce hasn't really been in the spotlight in the last 5 years though. Lady Gaga and Rihanna for making dance music extremely popular. For rap, a number of people in the A and Miami.

Dude will be exposed in no time. He can't rap for nada (see Sway and Big Boy freestyles + hella ghost writtens in his albums) and I guarantee you he's not producing half of what you think he is. Dude slaps his production tag on more **** than Dre and Diddy. Kanye is a fraud.

LOL kanye was mad during that interview he said he didnt even want to freestyle.

How is he fraud? He is not pretending to be anything that he isnt.

Lets not turn this into a kanye circlejerk instead lettuce discuss people who have had a great impact on music.
