While gangsta rap and the mafioso rap style is nothing new and generally traceable, many have deviated and focused primarily on making records about cocaine ( not necessarily an entire discography). Some examples include Clipse, Jay, and Jeezy in some aspects, and others I'm sure I'm forgetting, but does anyone have info on and / or examples of possible origins ?

I know ppl were into it since forever, especially them older studio 54 era type cats, but it seemed to not be widely accepted until the purple tape. I mean at one point in the late 80's you had a bunch of rappers denouncing smoking weed.
