im assuming this is a college course. meaning it was graded on a curve. that 40 was probably good for a C. hell i got a 40 on my macroecon final which was goodenough for a B minus. other dumb ppl in the class FTW

just out of curiosity (and even though it has nothing to do with said English class lol), are you a sports management major?...

Na English major. Sports Management is a dead end unless you have great connections or go to law school.
