see it everywhere... if you take the bus, go to downtown, grocery store, visit homies house they have bunch of beat retro's, skaters with beater SB dunks with holes and ****, peoples work shoes, etc

i beat all of my shoes, that's what they were made for. but with the rotation, they will invariably retro by the time the situation becomes dire. nothing wrong with changing colourways.

now if only they'll start retroing xv>

This is part of my point, as much as i rotate i rarely ever get to the beat point on any shoe, plus between my casual shoes and air max, I can't see BEATing a pair 160-180.00 shoes. And I have I haven't beaten a shoe from casual use since i was in elementary or middle school.

 Man shoes are retro like crazy now and with technology you can find any shoe, any day of the week, any time. Plus half of the time when you pull the DS pair out the box a couple years later they seperate or do some old crazy stuff that makes you feel stupid.

assuming you payed retail price on your kicks, another plus to doubLing or buying multiples of your favs is i guess you can skip the next retro with a higher msrp. Who knows JB might go over the 200$ when they plan to release the next playoff 11 retro. If this has been brought up my apologies

When assuming goes wrong! I am not new to this at all but as a older guy in these shoes the accessibility of shoes today due to technology is really a reason to curb your appetite and spending. I see shoes all the time that 10 years ago I would have jump on asap but now I have learned that next week or next month I'll see 10 more pairs and 3-4 of them will be cheaper than the first "STEAL OF A DEAL." And the funniest thing is that you said you didn't have the leisure back in 2002, really. I still can remember calling Eastbay ordering the Steel X's a couple days after release in 05-06. You either are trying to sound cool or you tried to pull an OG card on the wrong guy, LOL. My first pair of Jay's were the MIlitary 4's in 1989, my little brother got the Fire Red's with the wings sewn to the sides and I was mad as hell because owning a Jordan shoe that wasn't RED/BLACK/WHITE, was not the thing.

I wore my Bred 11s last weekend and I thought to myself I have worn them now ...they're not new anymore lol. I thought this is why people double up but then I thought I have so many shoes to wear that these wont get worn out anytime soon.  Also, I thought maybe I just like to deprive myself because If I had another pair my first pair wouldn't seem so special to me anymore. Well said. The rate jb is dropping retroes is unheard of. Years ago it was never this severe. Talk about rarity. Now a shoe retro 3-5 years. And yes, I count the colleizone pairs cuz the retros that are dropping now were in the those packs.

But back years ago, people genuinely copped 2 pairs of concords because of nostalgia, and wanting to have a pair on ice again for the future because it wasn't promised that the would retro again. And when they did retro, it took 10 years. Someone who really wears their shoes (like homie above with the playoffs) isn't tip toeing around in them. He's taking full advantage of his money. And we used to call those types of people smart for buying 2 pairs because he has another pair on ice. Playoff VIII's are dropping again now, and guess who DOESN'T have to go stand in line for them? The smart gentleman above who already has one pair deadstock and one pair that he got his full moneys worth out of.

And also, I kind of think you're stunting because most people know that unDS's a 10 year old shoe is probably not going to go as expected and you can expect to spend 100.00 with these restorers which is going to put you right back at resell, due to the current retail prices being 160+.

And as far as when was the last time the XVII's retro'd, that may be the stupidest comment on NIKETALK, period. Is it time for a 17 retro, if the Concord was just retro'd in 2011? Do the numbers! Also, you brought up the Chicago 10's that were so coveted by "COLECTORS" like yourself at release, but are now selling well below reatil? I'ma let you have have it because you sound like an 80 year old. You jump all around a point, to make a point, then when they are shot down you say the point doesn't matter, then start defending the same point again. You're a right though that people do what they are use to doing but when you continue habits that should be changed or modified then you are foolish. 

I used the X's as an example of how people hype stuff only because it new or being retro'd and the point i made using the X's can be made about almost every general release retro in the past 3-4 years. And to be honest the XVI's and XVII's are very available to those who want them for a little above what the current retail value would be. Also, I never said Jordan Brand retros in order but they damn sure are paying attention to demand and in a sense creating a sort of pseudo-demand by trickling out sample pics here and there. 

And yes I have most definitely changed the way I cop kicks because to address you go online in 2002 point, you really didn't have to do anything special to cop back then. I got a pair of XIV Red/White/Black(Candy Canes) from Nike on the exchange program they use to run back when they just sent you another shoe in the same size, before the vouchers, back around your o' so coveted 2002, birth into Jordan'dom.  

Continue to double and maybe one day you will, look at a closet, basement, room, wall full of shoes and laugh at yourself as i have done many times.

I rarely double up, but getting multiples of the same colorway does make sense. Example;

I love the Jordan 9 flint greys from 2002. So I double up when they come out, because I like them so much and I know I'm going to wear them a lot and they are going to get messed up. So I take my two pairs home. And I play ball, kick it, and everything else in that Jordan 9. At the time it was always a 10 year interval before the next retro.So it's a good thing I grabbed another. Now I just have this completely F'd up shoe, and it's been a few years so the price is now $500 for the shoe. Damn, i'm not shelling that out for it. Wait. I have a fresh pair in my closet. All is good.

Before this era, it would be 8-10 years before any type of retro. And when they retroed it wouldnt even be all the colorways. So it's better to be safe than sorry.

Look at retro+ colorways, they are rarely retroed, or just not retroed at all. It's better to have a spare, than nothing at all

Also, the people that double-up have these DS pairs in their closet. Say you want a shoe but it dropped a year ago, struck out, not comin out for at least 3-5 years roughly. Someone out there doubled up and has a DS pair available, now you suddenly have access to that shoe because someone copped 2-3 pair. So it helps other people as well, as long as you're willing to pay some extra dough, or looking for a trade, you have access to a DS pair of pretty much any model you want.

because people have favorite colorways.

in your case, you happened to like cements, military, breds, etc so you didnt have a problem just buying the next release.

but for others (me included), the black/red 4s are favorites.  and therefore, worthy of buying multiples.

Idk if its the way I was raised, never bought multiple pairs of shoes(chuck Taylor's excluded) quiet as kept I used to brag about getting multiple shoes from Payless for same price dude got the one pair for...cultural, socioeconomical, multiple factors play into peeps decisions... hopefully those that do by multiple pairs aren't using rent, alimony, daily living expense $$ or their parents(kid that began 'collecting' @ 14!! Another thing that I wonder is do people generally buy every shoe that is coveted as "the shoe of the moment"?   Like a good example for me is the royal blue 1.  I know the history on them and all but that colorway is just not my taste so I passed.  Or the Jordan 8...I never liked it so I always pass. However, they sell out quickly.  Do people just grab them cause its "the" shoe.  Im not talking about collectors thats a different story in itself.  I guess this would be a case of what people call hypebeast.  Which is a new term for me.  Sneaker game done changed lol ... I've seen people argue and insult each other claiming to be "sneaker heads" and youre a hypebeast etc. etc.  Its crazy ..mad self entitlement.
