Why do some dudes have problems dethroning legends?

Everytime someone cites BIG or Pac as his/her favorite rapper, I wonder which of the 3 groups they belong to:

• The people who know nothing about rap so just cite someone that everyone likes to look knowledgeble

• The people who feel bad about their deaths/feel like they're paying homage to them by mentioning one of them as one of the best, but really don't think of them like that

• The people that actually think that.

Call me cynical, but I think there's way more people in the first 2 groups than in the last. Seriously, it's been 11 years since BIG died. Music haschanged. Production has got better, lyrics (from actual lyricists) have gotten more deep/complex... over all the pool of artists is a LOT deeper than it was adecade ago, and that breeds competition, which causes people to step their games up. So in those 11 years, there has not been ONE dude that can be mentioned inthe same sentences as these dudes? You can't even say " ___ > BIG" or "___ > Pac" without dudes going crazy. You can't evensay "___ == BIG" or "____ is close to Pac's level" without catching heat. Why do dudes front? At this rate NO ONE is going to be seenas better than them... EVER. And that's just ridiculous

Like i've seen on here a couple of times... "BIG IS THE GOAT, NOBODY IS GOING TO BE BETTER, EVER" Areyou really blocking yourself from putting artists on his level just cause? That *%%* right there don't make any sense.

And i'm not even knocking dudes that put them as #1 on their top 10. But I have a feeling that a lot of dudes are on that "Oh I gotta put him upthere just cause everyone else is" tip. Be yourself fam... if Soulja Boy is your GOAT, I couldn't care less. You like what you like... I like what Ilike. It just seems like a lot of people got a "music taste" reputation that they got to upkeep. Like my man... it's not even that serious

And i'm not even going to beat around the bush, I think it's just cause dudes are dead (and the nature in which they passed), that dudes are likethis. And I know i'm not alone, but other people just don't want to say it. So i'm asking you guys... what does it take to dethrone a legend?

They're 2 of the best to EVER breath on a mic, that's the fact of it, I mean I personally haven't heard too many dudes in the last11 or 12 years that are near the level of these 2, those thoughts are repeated time and time again not only by fans, but by other rappers that came both beforeand after the 2, producers also . . . First off, I see where the op is coming from, but you said "favorite rapper". Anybody can be anyone's favorite rapper for whatever reason. Now ifwere talking greatest rapper, I could see ppl falling into those categories. I think a lot of ppl confuse favorite with greatest. Your fav. doesn't have tobe the greatest and vice versa.

As far as Big and Pac (which I don't believe either to be the goat) I can see ppl making that argument. Y'all just looking at the music side of it, butthese dudes influence went far beyond that. To this day I havent seen any artist move ppl the way those two did.........not even Jay.

And out of those three categories, I think most ppl who claim Big and Pac fall into the first one, cause they're just looking at one side of why somereally do feel that way.

Ding ding ding. Nailed it on the head. Pac is my favorite rapper and I don't think anyone is ever going to have the same influence on me. Pactaught me a lot of things that I would have either never known or would have found out the hard way. That's why I have such a strong tie to Pac. But onlything is rap is an art so favoirte and better are sort of the same thing. We could have a rakim vs lupe battle and see whose more lyrical but theres no clearcut mathematical formula to find out. It's sort of just what's the common consensus.

The people who go crazy when you say "___>Big" or" ____>Pac" are being stupid for not being open-minded. If someone saidJay-Z>2pac and a Pac fan started crying about it and arguing all day, that Pac fan is an idiot. The Pac fan is an idiot not because he thinks Pac is theGOAT, but because he doesn't accept the fact that anybody could be better, or ever will be.

It's stupid to say, "____ is the GOAT and no one will ever be better, ever, I don't care what anybody says because this is a fact.". The onlything to do when somebody says this is to move on, no reason to get butt hurt, they're idiots, who cares.

Like a guy said earlier some people confuse their "favorite" for the "best". One could say Soulja Boy is their favorite and I would respecttheir opinion, but if he said he's the best I would have to disagree with him.

Fact: 2pac and THe Notorious B.I.G. are legends, nothing will change that.
Fact: They are some the best to do it, each in their own way. Pac was simple, but was able to get powerful messages across and he made great music. Notoriouswas and is one of the best lyricist to ever get on the mic, the way he told stories made peoples jaws drop.

You can't dethrone a legend they are there to stay. Some people don't realize that their favorite isn't necessarily the best.

Personally, its all opinons...I think PAc is that Dude and I make sure to give him props, pay homage, etc etc.
he has meant that much to me in my frame of mind, how i think, how i carry myself, shaped some of my beliefs etc.
