Why does Nike make second-grade, fugly Basketball shoes? Vol. Nike Overplay

I have always wondered why Nike even bothers making these kinds of shoes? It's not like they're priced extra cheap, they still cost maybe $60-75 with which you can buy decent basketball shoes other than these.

I'm guessing there's a market for those who prefer these types of shoes? Or are these made particularly for select countries or what not? What could be the reason for continuing to produce these fugly-*** shoes?

Moms looking for reasonable kicks for their kids. Most parents don't have the money to be spending $200 every six months for their kids school & summer shoes.

I'd wager that those shoes sell 3-4x better than any Lebron, KD, or Kobe shoe.

Hmm... that would make sense if Nike didn't have cheaper alternatives such as your Hyperfuses or your other team basketball kicks. These just look like they're on another level of a lack of technology and design. It's like they're made by an entirely different manufacturer even. Even the swoosh logos are ugly! 

Funny thing is you see these alongside other regular kicks at your local FTLs, Champs or Nike stores, and you see people pick them up even though other shoes are available for the same price. 

 There probably is a market for people that have bad taste in shoes. I mean honestly if I didn't care for shoes, I'm pretty sure I can distinctly see the difference of these models from the rest of the pack.

i always see those kinds at discount stores like marshalls

last time i saw this overplay vi in some cw's for $15... about to cop ..to wear in mud or mow the lawn.. but i didnt i thought my closet space was worth more

Precisely my point, most of those shoes got sold to kids whose moms gave them $100 for school clothes, and they went and spent 40 on a video game. Everyone who couldn't afford or couldn't fit into foams had those, they weren't meant to be worn by the average sneaker head.
