Major Game releases such as Call of Duty, Halo, GTA and any other hyped up game is NEVER understocked and you can ALWAYS get them whether you pre-order or not. But shoes become more scarce the more hype they get? I'm really having trouble wrapping my head around the concept Jordan/Nike are using as a business.

Makes sense to supple the HEAVY demand, you as a company make more money. Ive never heard anyone screaming they coudlnt get Modern Warfare, or crying about having to buy Modern Warfare for $150.00. Honestly, how much more money could these brands make if they actually took the time to make enough?

People think having things other people don't have gives them a better than thou image.

If Nike produced enough so that everyone can have a pair, then there will definitely be a few pairs sitting on shelves that will end up being on sale and once that happens, people might wait on future releases waiting for a sale. Think of that shoe in the store that you sort of want but not at the price point you want to pay. It didn't sell out and most likely won't sell out. After a while, the store will put it on sale. Also, some people will jump ship once they realize there is more supply than demand. You have to realize a lot of pairs are being bought by people hoping to resell. Once more supply hits the market, demand goes down and resellers won't make money so they stop buying the shoes and Nike will be left with too much supply.

Some brands limit the production specifically so that it will sell out and leave customers wanting more so when the next thing comes, more people will be eager to buy even if the item isn't as appealing.

Because halo 16, 17, and 18 will eventually come out.

The retro 3s will always be the same

They make enough. It's just a strategy to have many limited releases than to make a whole lot of one release. XIs release every year. Foams come out nearly every other month in a different color.
Jordan 3s, 4s, or 5s come out every year.

For video games, it's about recouping the investment in R&D costs and making a profit. For retros, there is no R&D costs to recoup.

so you telling me if they made 1 1/2 or even twice as many XI's or even the DB jordans it would affect the demand of them? because ALOT of people miss out or pay 2-5X as much just to have a pair when others have bought 1-3 pairs.

Cause Nike loves to Dictate the market.

Youll purchase on their standards, not how you want it.

They make you miss out on Concords, guess what now you have that mentality that your not going to miss out on the next couple of releases.

Nike knows what their doing, idk why people question it :lol

Because I can get Halo 4 for $30 two months later but concords will be $500000 two months later.

It's the halo effect surrounding their brand. The majority of hype is placed around a finite amount of products. As a result, people will line up for that product and the media will come to cover the event producing free advertising about the product specifically and the brand in general. Since people can't get the hyped item, they'll get a cheaper item as a substitute.

It's similar to the Apple model in that they never satisfy the desires of the fans, thus making them come back for more when the new feature comes out. If a brand fully satisfies the needs of the consumer, they have no need to come back for the next product when it's introduced.

Because it keeps them relevant, it keeps Nike in people's heads, keeps them wanting. Halo, COD, and those other games have hype a couple weeks before release date but its instantly done once its released. No one talks about Halo after its out, there are strategy talks and review websites online, but not real drawn out discussions like how people talk about concords forever . Concords have been out for a while now and people are still talking about it, searching for it, wanting it. Thats just free publicity. Then the people that are still hungry from the last release will buy the next release just because they couldn't buy a previous shoe.

Nike doesn't want you to all have the same shoe,
They don't want 70% of people wearing the same model.
Part of the appeal is the fact that they're "somewhat" unique.

Everyone can have a copy of the latest madden, no one is going to know on the street that it's "played out"

Nike sells most of it's less desired items through consolation buys.

You think Nike would be able to sell Hyperdunks if Lebron 9's or Kobes were ALWAYS in stock? No.

So what they do is, release the Big Bangs, drop the Hyperdunks in the same exact colorway, sans the GITD sole, and you have millions of people buying the Hyperdunks because they are cheaper and/or they couldn't get the Big Bangs.

Same thing for every 90's trainer/basketball shoe they release in a similar color scheme right next to some Jordans.

For those who couldn't get the Cool Grey 12's or Cement 4's, just settled on some White/Red or Cool Grey/Orange Diamond Turf 2's.

Same thing with the Concord 11's and the Oreo Zoom Rookies and Freegum Lebron 9's all releasing near Christmas last year. No matter what you're coming to the mall for, Nike is ensuring that they do all in their power that you leave with a pair of 200 dollar shoes.

Watch when the Breds (4's or 11's, same formula) come out, there will be some generic NSW shoe right next to the display pair in a Black/Red colorway.

Nike will not have trouble selling Jordans or limited Lebrons for a LOOOOONG time to come. But they do need to sell Hyperdunks and NSW abominations like Air Max Griffey Fury's. So they give the Fury's a Sprite colorway. Or the Hyperdunks a Fireberry colorway. For those not swift enough to get the Lebrons or Hyperposites or what have you.

yeah, they always have a takedown model with the same colorways.
dudes running out to get southbeach slide sandals to make up for the fact that they missed the lebron hype

1.Because most of the jordan models etc. wouldnt sell out if crazy numbers were produced. Besides 11's, BC 3's, bred 4's, and a few other cw's, most wouldnt sell out.

2.As others have said, the exclusivity is part of the marketing and appeal. Lets be honest, alot of the DB's are hideous. But mark them as limited quantities and you will have people going crazy for black, green, and blue 4's with a superman logo on them

3. The profit margins on the product allows them to make a smaller quantity and still be fine. Video games have multi million dollar budgets and that doesnt include marketing the games. So they have to keep a continuous stock. If the price to make a jordan sneaker went up ( either labor costs or material cost rise) Nike would either raise the price of the product, or produce alot more of them to balance out the smaller return on each pair.

4. Nike is a multi faceted company so they dont rely on money from 1 sector only. It isnt like Jordan and Nike Basketball are the only cash cows.

Yes it would.

Because

A. If they have the Concords they have no reason to go and try to be OD thirsty for the Cements 2 months later, they are satisfied.

and/or

B. They have no reason to get those Oreo Zoom Rookies that came out the same day as the Concords.

Nah Nike makes as many purs as dem video games but da majority of them go to tha illuminati :hat :hat :hat

But seriously, say hundreds of thousands/millions of shoes were made everytime a hyped shoe came out... 1) The shoes would be more expensive because the company would be using A TON of material and 2) The shoes would without a doubt, be of a much worse quality. It's also much easier to copy a video game onto a disk than to make a pair of shoes.
