I would like to know what different peoples reasons are for buying Air Jordan, is it to be the best on court you need the best shoe, is it all about MIke being your idol or is it a self image thing, that to be popular in modern culture you need the newest shoes. Im just interested after seeing the images of riots in shops to get the shoes what is it that makes the jordan brand so must have, compared to say lebrons shoes

I started when I was in high school because I liked they looked. But now I'm pretty much over it. I m one of those people who likes things a whole lot when I don't have it then once I get all the ones I want get bored and stop caring.8)

They look good on feet. Kobe's are what I wear for basketball.

Jordan is the best ever and everyone wants to be like him or have a piece of that greatness. The shoe line is as legendary as the player was.

People by Jordans for a number of reasons. Most buy them these days because they're in style, trendy, rare....etc; basically because of HYPE.  They also think wearing Jordans gives some sort of "status" or makes them "cool" because they're expensive/limited shoes....

Basketball fans buy them because of MJ or to just hoop in. DONT ever believe anyone saying they're not good basketball shoes.

People go crazy over them cause they've been conditioned all these years to act that way..... and they have nothing else better to do.

Last but not least, the majority of people buy them these days just to resell or collect.

Once upon a time, they WERE good basketball shoes, they (as in retros) are definitely not now considering the advancement Nike has made in shoe technology. I would never play in a retro 1 for example, as the primitive cushioning setup is very hard on feet after long amounts of time. Anything less than an AJ 12 does not truly have anything on par with what today's current standards of sneakers has. I'd take a Lebron, Kobe, KD, or Hyperposite over the common retro J anyway if in terms of basketball...

As for why I wear Jordans, they are great looking shoes (most of them anyway) and then there's the nostalgia of growing up year after year with that flagship Jordan model out on the shelves. You can still look as fresh with a crispy pair of Jordans on as you would with any of the new sneaker lines out on the market...and also because Mike tore the league up in them. :hat

Grew up wanting to be like mike. I thought the shoes gave him special abilities on the court. That combined with the fact that my parents didnt believe in buying a 9 year old $100+ sneakers made them that much more desirable. That in essence inspired my love of sneakers. The fact that their still relevant all this time later long after their namesake has left the sport tells you that their is something about the shoes that resonate with people but for most people now a days it's not the nostalgia, its about some type of imaginary status.

it's all about nostalgia for me. i never had any delusion that i could play well (regardless of what is on my feet), but i grew up in the early 90's. the designs were what hooked me at first, a nike line without a swoosh on the side, and some pretty far out concepts. the combination of form and function for the entire line was unmatched imo until the lebron line since the ix. i never cared for any other ongoing shoe line in terms of style. the lbj ix, x and xi are stunning works of art, just like the ENTIRE AJ signature lines (except the 18, which i don't like at all).

The above responses kind of sum it up. I was never hugely into shoes growing up in the '80s, but I started to get the bug in late high school (early '90s). And Jordan was THE guy. But I couldn't afford the shoes. Managed to start with the XIIs, and never looked back. Having access to the styles that I saw the older kids have in the '80s has been fantastic, and they all look pretty good on feet, unlike some other, high performance basketball shoes. The IIIs - VIs are great looking shoes, and the XIs are obviously a classic.

Different folks will have different stories and reasons, but that's mine.

Quite frankly just about any bball shoe ive seen these days have no style appeal to me. Jordans were different. Most of the replies reflect the ages and its a shame what has become of the shoe line. It seems though that this years retros are making huge strides in reclaiming some past glory.

My reason for "Why Jordans" is a few.
Il be honest, as a kid i really never paid that much attention to his shoes, i was on barkleys n af1's back then. But i always idolised MJ. That would be the nostaglic part. Main reason is i think the retros 1-13 are the best looking shoes around, thats my opinion but i really dont dig anything else apart from the occasional foam or hyperposite or am etc, but i end up saving my cash for jays as i like the collection side of it as well. Also although it can be fustrating, the times you find that shoe you been looking for so long and end up finding equals alot more satisfaction than just hitting ebay and finding it first hunt.
