Well apparently I got hit with some sort of virus or something corrupted my computer, despite having AVG and spyware protection, and I lost everything. All ofmy files slowly got deleted until Windows couldn't properly run anymore.

I didn't have any of it saved to an external hard drive or any other safe location. Lost 9000 songs, all my pictures of vacations and family, schooldocuments, etc.

I also can't find my XP reboot CD so I was forced to upload ubuntu instead.

So just in case, backup everything you have on your computer and make sure it's safe from possible deletion.

*Awaits various "should have got a mac" posts or mac > PC yeah yeah... I should have got a mac if I could have afforded it 4 years ago, but ohwell.

Happened to me last summer, so I know how it feels. I felt like crying after I lost everything.

If you don't have an external HD try looking at backing your stuff up online.

How much pr0n did you lose

I didn't mind losing any porn, it was just 4 years worth of music that I lost which is heartbreaking. Plus all my pictures of my family and vacationsand all that.

Get Linux, you will never have virus (ma)c or BSODs (win2).

That's the obvious answer but really backup everything important either on an external or in a partition of your HD so if the SO mesups or whatever youhave your informatión on another partition.

I usually give 10GB to the SO and the rest is for information, never had a problem.

man I had a little scare last week. But luckily nothing got erased and I was able to get rid of the virus.

Yeah I'm running ubuntu right now, I kind of like it... real smooth so far.

I've lost my music twice in the past but now I back upall my writing projects immediately and my music once every few months.

I just backed up my files on my external because I was recently forced to use my reboot disk. One time, I lost all my music, pictures, etc, but that was when Ididn't have that much music. Just a few hundred music files then.

The SystemRescue (or SystemRecovery, I don't remember right now the name) CD also has a lot of options to recover the data you lost when you have an OSfailure, that's only one of the many apps it has.

Glad my laptop has a 10gb recovery disc and I have a 160gb external hdd. I'm thinkin bout upgradin my flash drive again from 1gb to 4+ or get a moreportable external hdd
