I just wish other companies would learn from Googles amenities. I would be so much more pleasant to come into a facility like that, even if you are working crazy hours.

Everyone doesn't have Google money though. The amenities cost Google at least a few hundred million per year. Its not just the stuff you see at campus but extended maternal leave, two years paid leave while furthering your education, etc.

all these amenities are earned via the hours you put in. google expects a lot out of its employees and you need to deliver.

Google hires temporary jobs too, which have much lower requirements to obtain. If you REALLY want to work there, that wouldn't be a bad way to see how it is.

Actually....a lot of tech companies in general are hiring temp employees just cause it is cheaper. It's such a crappy field right now just cause company's don't want to pay benefits and in the long run, it is just cheaper to have temps. My friend has been working IT support at Zynga (company that makes Farmville, Mafia Wars) for over a year and they still won't hire him.

My friend goes to UW and they flew him in from Seattle to San Francisco just to do interviews. He got the internship and turned down PricewaterhouseCoopers to do so, what a freaking beast! He told me all he did was go to the employment page from google's site and went from there, I don't even think they have a recruiter in our campus
