can anyone with experience with creatine give me some heads up on it? I know your muscles get pumped with basically water and you have to cycle it from what I've read up on... but after it adds some mass can I stop using it and supplement it with something else so muscles don't shrink? Also will just plain whey protein do this trick without needing creatine?

theres a workout thread that you might be able to get more answers in.

Creatine is neither a steroid nor a form of protein. It fulls your muscles with a substance (which the body already produces) that lets you push your self a little harder on very high intensity workouts. It lets you do one more lift, one more wind sprint, one more plyo jump. You cycle it (six weeks on and two weeks off, for instance) and your workouts will be a bit more productive.

Because it does not alter your hormones like steroids, you will not lose any gains created by those extra, creatine fueled reps (although you still would have to train at a high level to maintain those gains).

Red meat has all the creatine you need.

If you insist on buying it, buy creatine monohydrate.

Also, its effects will vary person to person. Remember, not everyone metabolizes the same.
