Worst loss in your playing career?

I've been wondering what the worst loss some of you guys have had in your days playing sports, because I've had some trouble getting over my worst loss.
Last year my high school team was the overwhelming favorite to win the state in baseball. We were ranked #1 in Virginia and #3 in the nation. We had all of the pieces: hitting, pitching, and defense. Two of our players were drafted and 4 others had D1 scholarships. Throughout the season we would fall behind teams but always would come back and win the game in the end. It was our season, so heading into the state championship we didn't think it was possible for us to lose since up til that game we had gone 28-0. And then it happened, we lost 5-3. That was my last baseball game ever and I went 0-2 with 2 strikeouts in the game and that game has haunted me ever since. Its just tough to deal with day in and day out when really I guess it shouldn't be that significant to me.

Anyway what's the worst loss you've had to swallow?

Worst loss in my playing career...I'm sure i had other ones, but the very last one of my college career (2010) (2009) hurts
a lot. I was set to be one of the contending guys to win the 800m, and somehow I was listed in the 4th heat (of
4 total heats), when I should've been in at minimum the 2nd one, and I ended up winning that heat, but with
my finishing time was pitiful compared to what I know i would have ran if I was put in the right heat. Never in my
life have I ever been lumped with the slowest guys ever in a race like that

I think the only reason I'm sort
of over it now cause it's been almost 2 years.

I'm a soccer player now but my worst loss in sports was

17th place (out of 217) in a 5k race i should have won. Ran it with the flu.

Led the leading pack the first 2 miles, the last 800 meters i threw up

place wise i finished great but compared to how i could have finished the race i was so disappointed
edit: Peep^^^, they didnt have pace setters?

Junior year of HS. Varsity football. We were the @!@%. Undefeated in the regular season. Division champs. We were 12-0 I believe heading into the state semi-final. We thought it would be so easy. Our closest game until then had been a 28-10 win over our rivals from down the street. We traveled up to Baltimore for the game. Saw M & T Bank Stadium on the way (in the state of Maryland, HS football championship games are played there). We get shut out 35-0. I literally said nothing for 2 weeks. Jokes on jokes on jokes at school. Quietest bus ride home from a game ever

Never seen seniors cry like that. That was their only chance

In 6th Grade I played in a BBall league and 1 game we only scored 4 points the whole game. I had all 4 (2 of the points from the FT line)

District basketball my junior year.

23-0, rated 7th in the state, and we lost to our rival who we had previously handled twice.  I was in foul trouble the whole game and eventually fouled out with 6 seconds left without scoring any points.  We lost by two after our star missed a 3 at the buzzer.

I was a freshman in high school, nobody knew who I was until we played in the high school tournament. we began killing every other team until we made it to the finals (I was team captain), and we were doing it with style, pulling off AND1 moves every now and then

, this was in Saudi Arabia so literally no one could even imagine pulling off tricks like that. I was a 5 foot 2 skinny little kid dominating the court so it was kind of a feel good story. Teachers were coming to the court in recess just to see our team play. Some players from opposing teams would beg us not to embarrass them.

We played against my brother's senior team and lost by just three points. It was a heated battle and we were the heavy underdogs but, we were so close. I ended up missing the buzzer 3 to tie the game. It was the most heart breaking loss I have encountered. especially when you had the entire school rooting for you. and adding the sibling rivalry between me and my brother made it even more painful. We could have won that game.

Disclaimer: this was all in Saudi Arabia, so the level of basketball is well below the level in North America. It was competitive though.

4th grade, down by 1 (basketball), I get fouled with no time left on the clock. Nobody even stands in the lane, all by myself, miss both, knocked out of the tourney. Cried my way home in the back of the Aerostar

Last year, intramural championship game at UVa. We were a bunch of law students who had just beaten a team full of Club players in the semis, and were playing the other team that featured Club players. What seemed like half the law school came out to watch us play for the first time. We got creamed for 40 minutes. Were down 25-5 at halftime and ended up losing like 60-34 or something. It was terrible. I had some kid that had played on the UVa team guarding me the whole time and I barely got a shot off. Tried to do a step-back three from the corner and the ball went behind the backboard. Not even hit the side, straight up went behind the backboard.

Worst for me had to have been my last game in high school, against our biggest rival down 0-6 for almost the whole game and we get down to the 5 and convert 1st down on a 4th and the ref's call a penalty for "aiding the runner" because we had kids pushing our RB for extra yards.

Didn't get the 1st down and didn't score. Lost the game 0-6

senior year of hs - lost in 5 in LA City CIF finals on tv. my setter had mental breakdown, probably caused by me. we were the #4 seed, i think san pedro was #2. had the match of my career like, 4 days before. cried after...camera zoomed in. next week at school everyone dogged me for crying. i basically cried the same way as adam morrison.

junior year of college - lost in CAA finals against university of delaware. again, cried like adam morrison. udel's coach hugged me after the game. embarrassing.

senior year of college - lost in CAA semi finals against northeastern in 3. got *+*#*+ handled. was up like 24-18 in the first set, whole team %+%% themselves and we lost game 1, and it was basically downhill from there. that one stings the most bc it ended my entire athletic career, and two weeks before we beat the %+%% out of NU at home and was player of the week, then come tourney time we *+*#*+ lose and we all blow it. oh i cried, as per usual.

at me bein such a cry baby

i was like 13, playing in a fall bball travel league and we were undefeated until we played a team that had donte greene, malcolm delaney, and sean mosely...at tip off we find out our best player big mike and a couple other players wasnt playing, and we ended up losing...the worst part is that was the day to take team pictures, everybody had the forever alone face
laugh.gif
....but i still believe to this day we would have won if we had our whole team there.

I've had 3 stingers that stand out. One from Babe Ruth baseball, another in HS football, the other in college. I'd get into details, but I'm positive I'll make it rather verbose, and don't wanna get amped before bed.

Think about them from time to time (how fun it would've been to win those), but completely over them.

Pee wee championship game.......

I rushed for over 200 yards , Got the ball on the last play down 6 Scored a 6 yard TD emmitt smith style

Coach goes for the extra point , i was the holder , bad snap .

Edit: Was it you that asked NT of different plays or what kind of defense to play? Disregard, if it's not you.

Lost to Hoover High by 1 point my senior year.

They were #1 in the country then too

I dont want to *%%$+!* talk about it

My sophmore year of high school (2007), I got my first varsity start at free safety. The starter was injured and the 2nd dude was academically ineligible, so I got called up from JV to play. I was nervous, but the team we were playing was at the bottom of the 5A rankings, so it wasn't too bad. We went up 28-0 in the 4th quarter. As a defense we dominated for 3 quarters. Then we proceeded to give up six touchdowns in a row, 2 that were my fault. On one I messed up my coverage and allowed an easy score, on the other I tried jumping a route and missed

. We lost 41-28.

That was a long ride back to school. I lost the starting position the next week and only played special teams the rest of the season. However, when I became a junior, I started at safety for 2 years

My former college had an intramural league. First off, we were terrible. I think our "regular" season record was 1-10 or something but we still made the playoffs. It was just an intramural league but still we took it pretty seriously. It was my first taste of the playoffs. We had to play out of all people a team called "Hoosiers Daddy". We were down by 3 with about 20 seconds left. People knew me as the outside threat so I was already up the court when the PG brang the ball up. Quickly, they said "guard #13". I tried everything I could to get away from them but as soon I got the ball at the 3-point line they double-teamed me. I had nothing else to do but pass to one of my teammates who was terrible standing at the 3-point line. He goes up for the 3........ Airball.

Felt like crap after the game. The train ride home sucked.

Senior year in track at the state meet championship, my 4X8 team was ranked 1st. Since I got there, we finished high every year. 3rd my freshman year, 2nd my sophomore year, 1st my junior year.

I was the fastest leg but they put me at third for strategy...either to play catch up or put the race out of reach. Welp...other teams caught on and I went out way too fast. Went from the pack to completing dying on the final straightaway. Our anchor Nathan put us back in reach and ran a ridiculous time but it was too much too late. We ended up getting 2nd. Didn't wanna go out like that my senior year.

Still finished with 7 state rings and 1 national championship.

1997....Junior year in high school (Miami Southridge) we were 13-0 and the #3 football team in the Florida. We had just beat the #2 team, Plantation High, in the 2nd round of the playofs 22-7. It was a tough game, had to drive up like an hour and play in their little tiny stadium, but we were able to beat them. So the next matchup was against #1 Carol City in the Orange Bowl. The papers were hyping it up, calling it the "Real State Championship". It was #1 vs. #2 in the State, but Carol City was ranked #7 in the COUNTRY that year, and we were #13, so it was a pretty big game. Started the game off great, and were winning 18-6 at half. Then we came out in the second half, and Carol City just went off. Their QB Ethnic Sands broke like an 80-yard run on the 2nd play of the half, and it went down hill from there. Ended up losing 37-25. And of course, Carol City went on the win the State Championship something like 28-0. There was a lot of cats in that game that went to Miami, and a lot of other major colleges. We had them cats, and should have won, but they got us. We finished 13-1 that year, and I'm not ashamed to say it, but I shed some tears that night.

I love how some of you bums best sports memories are playing rec center basketball/football and some random tournament at your high school yet some of you manage to talk mad #@%* about sports in here like you were All-American

My worst was probably in high school track my senior year at the indoor state championship. Tore my hamstring in the long jump finals. Went on to run in college but my hamstring wasn't the same for like 2 years after that.
