Summer's here and I'm ready to go back to my summer job. Mind you this is by far the best money I could be making right now at my age and situation. However, this is the most unprofessional boss I've ever worked for. He's disorganized with work scheduling, blatantly dodges phone calls, and an overall dickhead. Also I have to keep my availability open all summer for an on call job so I can't make plans. Really, I'm just stuck in a dilemma just wanted to hear from NT. /vent

personally id be like screw that place but i understand how money trumps all for some ppl

As a full time student in the fall/spring, I really don't think I'll find a better paying job. And you know, I thought I had that money trumps all mindset but stressing over last year I kind of just wanna chill and enjoy this summer. Am I making a poor excuse to being lazy?

You may think its the best money you could be making, but trust me, it is not. Assuming you don't live in the middle of nowhere (and even if you do,) there are always opportunities to make money - probably more than you'd make from your current gig.

A lot of poor bosses will attempt to convince you that they are giving you the best deal for the work you're doing for them, and it'd be a waste to look for something else. They keep people around by preventing them from leaving. Use you up, then spit you out.

I can't work in an environment where I don't at least respect the people around me. You plain out don't like the guy. You probably shouldn't work there. Just look for other opportunities.

Also, ask yourself this: what is the work that you do? Do you honestly need the boss to do that work, or could you and your friends do the same work?

If all else fails then cop da work and whip it, b.

Like stated, money isn't the only factor, especially in the professional world. People want to work for great leaders who will turn their staff into leaders themselves. Bad leaders or bosses demoralize their employees.

I've worked at a bad place before myself.

Applaud this man.

Your trying to find an excuse to be lazy, pa.
Man up and get this money, fam.
It's mad money out here to be made and you sitting on your ***, contemplating if you wanna work for a dude you don't like or not. None of that **** matters, B. It's dudes in the street hustling for some cat they got wild animosity towards. You think they gonna stop hustling? No..they're gonna continue to get this paper and then take over the whole operation when the time is right..feel me? If you want to make money, you gotta put your feelings aside, pa. It's money out here..you gonna let one man stop you from getting money? As a grown man, you should never let another man stop you from feeding your family, B. Only soft cats let feelings get between them and the money. Put your feelings to the side, go to the workplace, and put in work. Make your money. It's summer time. **** a vacation. You don't get paid to go on vacation. That time will come later.

I see you still in school so I'm gonna assume that your rather young. You have your later years to relax. Right now is when you should be putting in that work and making this money. Sallie Mae ain't gonna take no excuses once you graduate, pa. When she wants her money, she wants her money. She don't care if you sat a summer out of work cus you didn't like your boss. She wants that money. So go out, go to work, and make this money. Trust me, it'll be worth it in the long run. If you don't like your boss, I'm sure other people don't like your boss. By the way it sounds, that man will get fired soon. And him getting fired leaves an open spot for you. But that spot is only gonna be there if you hungry enough. Now I'm not saying take that specific job..all I'm saying is man up and get this money, fam. It's money out here waiting to be made.

Good Luck :)

If all else fails...

Don't let the man hold you back b

Op whats the job? Im tryna get a new one myself and im lookin to make bread this summer before the semester starts

I'm not saying I'm not trying to work, just not at this particular job. But I definitely get what you're saying though. There will be a later time to relax I guess.

The job is a flagging company for construction. People who stand with the signs during road work. Easily make $20-30/hr depending on the contract with different companies. For my spot though it's basically all on call jobs so you have to keep your schedule open the whole summer day and night shifts.

How much of your day do you have to see your boss? Like how much time do you spend actually with him, or is it that he does annoying **** one time in the day that you keep thinking about all day long? If it's the latter, I would stick it out for now. It doesn't sound like intense manual labor or overly long hours, just that you don't work well with him or you don't like how he does things.

My boss right now I've had no issues with but other employees complain about him a lot. But they only have to actually sit and meet with him once a month for like 30 minutes tops and once a week or so answer an email. The rest of the time you don't really have to deal with him so it wouldn't be worth it to leave for such minimal interaction.

I guess the decision goes beyond my boss. I work like 9-14 hour shifts night and day shifts. The title was more for discussion but I ended up getting great feedback, thanks NT fam.

Just get an on campus job where you can work during the summer. I worked at my schools gym in college and they were open during the summer, we use to rake in bread.

I don't have to like that person.  I have to respect that person or it won't work out.
