Stemming from our discussion earlier this week that was moved to regional...

Which service helped you the most in locating specific info whether a club, restaurant or finding friends.

Reason I'm asking is because I came across some analytical info that Google throttles search relevancy of competitive information which is why the company purchased Yelp and Zagat.

To me it seems like people are becoming more and more spoon fed technology and favor the approach of one touch responses and appovals such as "likes", retweets or ratings. Opposed to the good ole days of Yahoo groups, messaging or forum (e.g. Niketalk)

How do you stay in the loop or do you favor old school "word of mouth"?

I use all forms except FB, but when it comes down to it I prefer word of mouth.

Twitter for entertainment and certain updates, facebook for immediate friends (which I'd probably call anyway) and to keep up with friends out of state.

To me word of mouth is more effective for genuine accurate information but since everything became an "one touch app" I find myself choosing the lesser evil. For instance, if someone tells me about a place I usually Google it, look for ratings and comments, and contrast two sources.

Lately I couldn't be more wrong with this method. As it's been discovered Yelp's underhandedness and misleading reviews, Facebook's ability to influence your choice through choosing either to hide or suggest relevancy based on monetary influence also Google. Google throttle's down competition by not indexing it's sitemap if crawlers discover a higher probability and relevancy.

Believe it or not Instragram is leading the way in digital word of mouth, but it's been acquired by Facebook so how long until Facebook modifies its function to siphon traffic back to Faceook?

Almost forgot, Twitter too, you can buy a trending topic.
