Aight, NT is a mostly male board...so if you have or will have children, did/would you have them tested? Why or why not?

Discuss.

My contribution:

Yes I would. Did, in fact. Just this week. (No real suspense, just always promised myself I would). I feel it's worth it to know for an undisputed fact. I even wrote a post about why it should be standard practice...but I know the last thing people want to see on a message board is a lot of words, so I'll leave reading that up to you.

If there was any doubt then yeah. Wouldn't do it just to do it though

I have a daughter. Haven't felt the need to have a paternity test. I'm not on child support, I have my daughter more than her mother does. She still doesn't even resemble her mom besides eye shape.

I just don't think it's necessary in my case honestly. Other cases I can see how it would make sense, like a random bop or you have evidence of your chick doing you dirty but as far as I know mine was faithful for the 4.5 years we were together. Plus the fact that it was exposed to me that the pregnancy was not accidental and was going to be used as a way to keep me around

Honestly, it has to do with disrespect. I feel like I would be disrespecting my sig other if I was to pull something like that but I understand it does put a lot of things to rest. All you can hope is the kid looks similar to you.

Damn, you handled that better than I would've...good work, soldier.

And I could see that angle of it, but in exchange for the next 18+ years of my life, I shouldn't have to "hope" a damn thing...I want to know as surely as she does because the baby fell out of her.

Yes day one. From what I have experienced in life, read from post secret, watched on Maury, and dealt with I MUST do this so I could rest easy at night when I get to that point in life.

You get it. It's not about the mother, it's about my own peace of mind...I was planning to do this before I was planning to do her!

If my daughter didn't look like me I would have taken one. But genetics don't lie. My potna just found out he wasn't the father.

I dig you...hell, my boy has enough of my traits to where I wouldn't question it based on that, but I've always been a big cheerleader on people getting their kids confirmed so I'd be a hypocrite not to. I just feel like it's the smart thing to do in today's world.

Damn, that sucks about your homie tho...curiousity, did he find out when the kid was a baby or later?

Don't have to....don't have kids with someone that has you wondering.

I'm a very facts-based person when it comes to major life concepts...trust has gotten better men than me seriously +%@!*!. The way I see it, it's Carfax for fatherhood.

If I had doubts, I'm all for it. Yeah, I may have that type of trust issues, but it's the sorta thing that would bother me if I didn't know.

Damn. I NEVER thought about how much of a slap in the face it would be. Interesting.

Then again... You gotta know what type of girl you're dealing with...

Men AND women get tricked everyday by someone who they THOUGHT wouldn't have them "wondering".

That's the thing, I don't really have any doubts to speak of. Then again, many men do not and are mistaken in their conviction. I'd rather just have it verified in writing like everything else.

Every damn day. It won't be that, oh no, it won't be that...I can't be that man. Luckily, she watches Maury too...she knows how it is nowadays. Feelings be damned, show me that proof!

I will seriously never understand why people encourage pre-nups and curl up their faces at this...aren't they both just forms of insurance?

You can never be too sure, these days. I told my girl if she got pregnant that I'd do a test. She got a little upset, but I've seen girls in serious relationships cheat tons of times. I don't think it's rude to want certainty.

I'm all for it, and like OP I've been planning before I started going half on babies.

The only issue is how the mother will react. I have an ankle who was always being questioned about his son because he had none of his features unlike his first daughter. He decided to get a test done and to my knowledge it is his son(I've never seen the paperwork). Like an idiot he left the papers around(or think the mother was snooping around) and she found it. Lets just say it was not a good time.

I guess it's only fair but then again I have no problem asking dudes to get STD testing(I called it walking papers) frequently. I never step out but I know it ain't above a man to do him for new p.

This is totally fair too...if mine asked me to produce a clean bill of health, I could do it since I find out for my own purposes anyway. I see both methods as a pre-emptive strike against any sideways questions. Actually, that's not a bad idea to have exchanging green-lighted STD checks become a social norm too...can't be too careful with flaming anal crabs and super saiyan syphilis running around, that might be my next crusade

It should be a social norm. That's what the pornstars do. It's just being responsible about your health. People get too offended when asked to do this tho but I don't care. No papers, no love.

If it was a quick hit and I end up pregnant I'd be low key in my feelings but would completely understand if a man wanted a paternity test. If we are in a relationship and I've never given you a reason not to true me trust I'm raising hell if you come to me about a paternity test.
